Hello there, I'm Naomi. My approach to therapy is, first and foremost, patient-centered. I believe we are all the masters of our own lives, and that therapy can be a vehicle for growth and change when we most need it. I specialize in mood disorders, anxiety/OCD, self-harm, race/cultural issues, family systems issues, and self-esteem issues. Deciding to begin therapy can feel scary, but I believe that anyone who chooses to go on a therapeutic journey is making a great choice. It's through the difficult moments in life that test our resolve that we learn what we're truly capable of, and I'm here to act as a support on your journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll get to know each other! I'll ask you questions to get a good sense for the challenges you're facing, and will develop a plan with you for addressing these challenges based on your reporting.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have a background working with adolescents and young adults and have worked with clients on issues related to school refusal and avoidance.

My treatment methods

Daialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize DBT in treatment settings in order to help my patients develop skills of emotion regulation. The idea is not to change your emotions, but rather to build awareness of emotions and to change behavioral responses that are no longer serving you. In a practical sense, as emotion regulation and behavioral change are key focuses of DBT, I like to challenge patients to incorporate tools of emotional regulation in their daily lives. Examples of this would be mindfulness strategies, or tools of interpersonal effectiveness.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT can be a useful tool for identifying unhelpful patterns, and changing them. We all have thoughts that can stop us in our tracks. The goal of CBT is to bring awareness to these thoughts and work on changing them so we can create better habits and behaviors. Thought challenging exercises, journaling, and behavioral activation are examples of how I utilize CBT in practice.

Family Therapy

With two years of proving family therapy to adolescent patients and their families, I utilize family systems theory in order to build the family's awareness of how current issues are having an affect on the family "system".
