I have worked with clients in various capacities since 1995 (Licensed in 2004) and I have learned people know themselves better than they think they do. YOU have in you what it takes to be amazing. I am here to help you make it happen. Everyone has a gift and a talent, no matter what their past has been. We can learn to move forward and grow. Sometimes we just need a little help, and I am here to walk alongside you in that process. I became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of Ohio in 2004, and a Supervising Counselor in 2007. In addition, I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and have been licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Arizona since 2023. I have dedicated my career to working with individuals with chronic illness, disabilities, caregivers, victims and survivors of domestic violence, and individuals who are experiencing relationship issues. I also have years of experience working with individuals in crisis, dealing with depression, anxiety, and past trauma. I believe you can work through past difficulties. I enjoy helping people create their best lives, by working with individuals, couples, and families. I am here to assist you in your journey. My goal is to help you decide what you would like to change, even if it is just to do ONE thing differently. Because even ONE thing can make a huge impact on your life. My style is supportive and caring. I also can be quite blunt at times, when gentle confrontation is needed, or when a client is feeling stuck and needs to "push through" something they are struggling with.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, I start with welcoming them to the session. I then thank them for starting therapy and ask them if they have ever had online therapy before. I review the limits of confidentiality. I also ask them if they would tell me what brought them to therapy today, and what was the major deciding factor. I try to learn as much as I can about what brought them in, and I want to reassure them that they are safe with me. Before we conclude our first session, I want to make sure they are comfortable meeting with me again. In addition, I talk about what they feel comfortable doing for the next session, as far as some "homework," or trying a new coping skill for the first week. I also explain any no-show policies. I let them know I try to alway shop up for our sessions; however, should an emergency arise, I will let them know ASAP, and I appreciate them doing the same.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am very authentic as a counselor-- I am who I am. I am told by my clients that I am pretty unique in that way. I listen intently to my clients and I am non-judgmental. I am pretty blunt as well. I do not candy-coat what I say to them. I feel like they need to hear things pretty clearly from a person who is nonjudgmental. I am going to expect them to "stretch" a bit and try new things from time to time that they may find difficult, but I will be there with them. Sometimes, things may not work the best, but we will try again. I believe that behavior change is a very difficult task for all of us, and we have to try again when it does not work.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I seem to do a great job helping people with anxiety, depression, and overthinking. I enjoy helping moms who get really overwhelmed with life in general and I can help them manage their lives more effectively. I enjoy helping caregivers who get overwhelmed, or people who are dealing with chronic illness and do not know how to adapt or cope. I help people learn to "recenter" themselves in order to refocus on what is really important to them-- how can they decide what is their own best life? How can they learn to take care of themselves? And where did all of this stuff come from (childhood early messages)? We can learn to "rewrite" our internal messages/ thoughts and learn to lead a much happier, more productive life.

My treatment methods

Strength-Based

I use the strength-based approach to help people learn they already have in them what it takes to feel better. We just have to find it. Everyone has internal strengths and resources, and we need to learn how to focus on the internal strengths, rather than focusing on weaknesses (such as by overthinking, anxiety, etc). By doing this, we can learn to improve confidence, self-efficacy, and achieve greater success.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a non-directive approach, focusing on the client, and the client's ability to find their own solutions. I am right with the client, walking along the path to the solutions; however, I realize the client is the expert in their life. We are on a journey of discovery together so we can find the solutions and help the client reach their full potential. You are safe with me in the counseling environment, and this allows you to explore. This allows for a self-healing process.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In order to make changes, we talk about current situations and we can talk about troublesome scenarios. This allows us to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. By changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, the client can achieve improved positive mental and emotional health. We identify self-help strategies that will help the client long after therapy has ended. We are goal-oriented. We work on how to reduce the overwhelming feelings that usually are what brings people to therapy in the first place.
