Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) based in Connecticut. I received my master's from Post University and have been practicing for 5 years. I help adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and trauma to overcome their struggles and to navigate the process of change in their desired areas. I also have experience working with adolescents staring at the age of 13.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and collect information to support a holistic view of the client. The client will get a chance to ask questions and provide details as to what brought them to therapy. Goals will be discussed, and a plan will be developed for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Over the years I have strengthen my knowledge of multiple treatment modalities. I have incorporated specific skills such as compassion, empathy, strong communication skills and cultural competency. I am open, self-aware and flexible with all my clients. I meet them where they are at and take this journey with them at their pace. I have a genuine desire to help others and take pride in working with others as they navigate through life.
I love working with adults from vulnerable populations who have experienced challenges and adversity in their life. I tend to focus on the male population who can struggle with emotions and societal expectations. I also enjoy working with females to help them to empower themselves and find their place in this world. Some of my clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. Other clients may be in a phase of life in which they are unsure about their next move and requires additional support.
CBT has been one of my top modalities since working with clients and helping them to navigate through stressful moments, trauma or the process of change. I use this approach to help clients to understand the cycle of our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Person-centered therapy is a humanistic approach that focuses on creating a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I have used this approach for the past five years offering empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard.
DBT is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that helps people manage their emotions which can lead to better relationships and reduce self-harm behavior. I have extensive experience with DBT and find it to be helpful to a variety of populations regardless of age, race and cognitive challenges.
I begin working the Internal Family Systems treatment method about a year and a half ago. I have found that this approach helps people heal by identifying their inner parts. I like to discuss the concepts of IFS before diving into treatment with clients. As I continue to grow in this method, I have found that client see results rather quickly and they often report a sense of peace or lightness when taking part in this treatment method.
As a non-confrontational therapist, I find Motivational interviewing to be the most effective method when it comes to clients who are having a hard time with taking accountability or understanding their current circumstances. This approach is supportive and enhances motivation and commitment to change. I have used this method for many years in conjunction with other approaches.
