My name is Annie (she/her), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, PTSD, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I hold a certificate as a Domestic Violence Counselor and have spent many years supporting youth involved in the foster care systems. I value co-creating a trusting and supportive space where you can develop greater emotional awareness, process unresolved pain, build healthier more secure relationships all while feeling aligned with your values and goals. A safe, supportive space can make all the difference in navigating life’s challenges, create deeper healing, and foster growth. Together, we’ll uncover strengths, build confidence, develop skills and work toward meaningful change.
In our first session, I like to start with introductions and get a good understanding of what brings you to therapy in this moment of time. I may ask a variety of questions during this time to gather more information about you, what goals you are looking to accomplish, and ask how you would know when therapy is ready to end. This gives us a better understanding of what we are working towards and how we might get there together.
My greatest strengths include a combination of clinical expertise, empathy, and ability to create a safe and empowering space. I have over 12 years experience working with victims and survivors of intimate partner violence, young adults, and youth involved in the foster care system. My combination of warmth, expertise and empowerment-oriented care is particularly impactful for trauma survivors, young adults, and individuals navigating attachment and life transitions.
Often times our current experiences, beliefs, and emotional responses can be tied back to how secure our attachment was with the people who cared for us as children. Using this lens helps us understand more about how you see the world, how you view safety, and how we can hold acceptance while working towards the best version of ourselves.
I have extensive experience as a DBT therapist, practicing since 2016. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is grounded in mindfulness and balances acceptance with change. This treatment method focuses on managing distress, regulating emotions, and interpersonal relationships by using skill building techniques. I often reference these skills in session to support people in building the tools they need to be more effective in different areas of life.
Holding you as the expert in your own life and emphasizing the importance of validation and empathy is vital to the therapeutic relationship and space. I see my role as your healing guide, creating a safe and supportive space to discover your inner strengths and resources.
I have spent my career working alongside victims and survivors of trauma and abuse. Using the key principles of Trauma Informed Care, we can co-create a safe and trusting space, while empowering you to hold an active role in your healing journey.
I find my therapeutic style is using a warm, curious, and gentle approach to create trust and respect. It also involves goal setting and emphasizing your role as the expert in your own experiences.
