I work with Clients (14-105 years of age) who would like to explore areas outside of their comfort zone, learn new coping skills, or just need a neutral person in their life. I work with students, teachers, medical professionals, and first responders/military as well those with family issues/divorce, custody issues, and non-traditional families. Mental health is complicated and sometimes involves a clinical diagnosis, other times, counseling is self-exploration. I am open to all conversations and issues.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session aims to establish a therapeutic bond, trust and the opportunity to learn about each other. I want to hear about you, and you are free to ask me questions as well. I will inquire about you, as our conversation evolves, to help me understand your past and what your daily life looks like.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe everyone deserves to be heard in a judgment-free zone, with warmth and understanding. I want Clients to feel they can share their thoughts, feelings and life experiences (including trauma) with me and feel safe while doing so. Some choose to view me as a neutral facilitator while others view our relationship as their safe place.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I find using a combination of therapeutic modalities to be most successful. I often utilize CBT, Trauma-Informed, Solution-Focused, Interpersonal, Family Systems/Divorce, and Reality Therapy. Counseling is not one size fits all, it often requires a mixture of approaches to address concerns.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps people learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior and emotions. Learning the skills that allow one to look at situations/ideas/thoughts from a different angle/perspective helps open doors to new avenues of thought and behavior.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed care acknowledges the need to understand a patient’s life experiences in order to deliver effective care. Beginning with an honest exploration of past traumas helps is essential to moving forward, focusing on "the now" and planning for a future free of trauma.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Brief Treatment is a form of "brief therapy," typically lasting between 5–8 sessions. Because of this, it is often less costly than other forms of therapy. Instead of digging into old wounds, more time is spent focusing on resolutions, which makes SFBT great for people who have a specific goal in mind and just need a little help reaching it.

Psychoanalytic

Psychoanalytic therapy is a form of in-depth talk therapy that aims to bring unconscious or deeply buried thoughts and feelings to the conscious mind so that repressed experiences and emotions, often from childhood, can be brought to the surface and examined.
