Hi! My name is Jane Zinger, and I became a counselor because I know how hard day to day life can be, particularly if you have neurodivergent traits, or grew up in a less than ideal situation. I firmly believe that no one should have to process life alone. We all deserve access to grounded, and forthright support as we continue forward. My goal as a counselor is to gain a thorough understanding of who you are, and how you relate to the world, as an individual. I’m here for you. Period.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session together will be overall casual, giving you a chance to get a feel for me as an individual. My goal will be to gather more information that gives me an understanding of your historic, current, and future needs. From there we can develop a game plan for building treatment goals, and scheduling further sessions

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I see my greatest strength as being my willingness to treat each individual I meet with as the preeminent expert on the subject of themselves.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

Humanistic Counseling Theory is based on the belief that people already possess the resources they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives, and that problems only arise when those resources have been limited by outside factors, or are difficult for the individual to access. In terms of our work together, this means that I do not use cookie cutter coping-skills. Instead I work with you to gather information about your current coping, and what has worked for you in the past. This allows us to dovetail your past coping successes, new insights, and research-based techniques that can carry you through to your future.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is based on the fundamental understanding that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all part of an interconnected process that has an impact on our overall sense of well-being. For example, let's say a coworker is avoiding eye contact, our thoughts turn to “Oh no, what did I do to upset them?”; which then triggers feelings of shame; leading us to pull away, and avoid future connection with the individual. Our goal here is to reassess thought processes that continually put us “at fault”, and find more balanced interpretations that lead to a more accurate sense of self, and increased interpersonal opportunity.

Existential

Particularly applicable these days, Existential Counseling Theory seeks to explore normative human anxiety surrounding subjects such as our fear of the unknown, worry about death, the search for meaning, and our ability to exercise free-will. Further, it contends that despite the stress inherent to our existence, we are free to build a life worth living - even in the worst of times. Using this theory, I will support you in taking small active steps toward a life befitting you as an individual.
