I am a licensed professional counselor with over 19 years of experience working with adults in a variety of settings on issues such as anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. My undergraduate and Master's degrees were earned at the University of Houston. I completed a Doctor of Psychology degree (PsyD) with a specialization in School Psychology from Capella University. I am currently accepting telehealth patients for insurance and/or private pay options.
My approach to therapy can best be described as a hybrid between cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and strength-based therapy. Simply stated, you can expect me to be supportive, encouraging and perceptive while you share your story with me. Together, we will create and work towards your individualized therapy goals and desired outcomes.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have opportunities to encounter individuals from all walks of life - from early childhood through adulthood, in schools, clinics, hospitals and in-home settings, from homeless to privileged socioeconomic statuses, and with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I consider my most valuable strength to be an ability to make connections across these 'invisible lines' that so often seek to divide individuals. If someone is in distress or seeking help to make positive changes, I appreciate opportunities to become a part of their personal journey.
I strive to assist clients who hope to achieve more satisfying relationships and a better quality of life through increased levels of self-awareness and improved communication skills. My ultimate goal is to help you identify ways to address your current issues, while also preparing you to proactively maneuver future challenges. I encourage individuals to 'trust the process' of therapy as an investment on the journey to self-improvement.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps people identify and change negative thinking patterns that contribute to emotional distress and unhelpful behaviors. Here's how it works with therapy patients: Identifying unhelpful thoughts: The therapist works with the patient to recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. They'll help the patient identify negative or distorted thought patterns that might be fueling their problems. Challenging negative thoughts: Once these patterns are identified, the therapist helps the patient challenge the validity of those thoughts. This might involve examining evidence for and against the negative thoughts, or considering alternative explanations for situations. Developing coping skills: CBT equips patients with tools and strategies to manage their emotions and respond more effectively to challenging situations. This could involve relaxation techniques, problem-solving skills, or assertiveness training. Overall, CBT is a collaborative effort that focuses on the present and future, equipping patients with the skills they need to manage their symptoms and empowering them to improve their quality of life.
Strength-based therapy is a type of talk therapy which emphasizes a client's personal strengths and available resources to improve their well-being. Here's how it helps therapy patients: Builds a Positive Mindset: By focusing on strengths, clients develop a more optimistic outlook and believe in their ability to make positive changes. Empowers Clients: The therapist works collaboratively with the client, treating them as the expert on their own life. This fosters a sense of ownership and control over their progress. Improves Resilience: The therapy helps clients identify how they've overcome challenges in the past, building confidence in their ability to handle future difficulties. Shifts Focus to Solutions: Instead of dwelling on problems, strength-based therapy works on using a client's strengths to develop solutions and achieve goals. Overall, this approach aims to empower clients and build on their existing strengths to create positive change.
