Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been licensed in the state of Georgia for over 8 years. I also hold licenses in the states of Connecticut, Vermont, and Delaware. In addition, I have Telehealth privileges to practice in the states of South Carolina and Florida. I have over 23 years of experience within the helping field stemming from working in outpatient and mental health facilities, along with community-based practices. My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavior Therapy as I will strive to help others become aware of maladaptive behaviors while also developing coping skills to minimize symptoms. In addition, I am well versed in utilizing DBT, ACT, trauma focused, and strength-based practices.
The main takeaway from a therapy session is personal insight and growth. Each session typically aims to enhance self-awareness, address specific challenges, and develop coping strategies. Key Areas of Focus… Self-Reflection: Understanding thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that influence daily life. Goal Setting: Identifying personal goals and creating actionable steps to achieve them. Coping Strategies: Learning techniques to manage stress, anxiety, or other emotional difficulties. Support and Validation: Receiving encouragement and understanding from a trained professional. Therapy sessions are tailored to individual needs, so the specific takeaways may vary based on personal circumstances and therapeutic goals.
My communication style is warm, grounded, and collaborative. I believe in meeting clients where they are — emotionally, mentally, and relationally — and creating a space where they feel safe to be their full selves. I balance deep empathy with clear, honest reflection. You can expect me to listen intently, respond thoughtfully, and challenge you gently when it’s therapeutically appropriate. I strive to create a nonjudgmental space where you feel understood, not just heard. Whether we’re exploring complex emotions, processing trauma, or building coping skills, I’ll offer feedback with compassion and transparency. I may ask thought-provoking questions, highlight patterns, or guide you in reframing your thoughts — always with your goals at the center. While I am clinically informed and structured in my approach, my tone is conversational and relatable. Therapy doesn’t have to feel clinical to be effective — it can be a real, human connection with room for emotion, insight, and even moments of levity. Ultimately, my goal is to help you feel empowered, not directed — supported, not judged — and understood, even in the places you’ve kept hidden.
During my longevity as a clinician, I have served families, couples, children, and adolescents in diverse populations. My current areas of specialties include assisting individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, substance abuse/addiction, mood disorders, self-esteem development, and self-harm/safety planning just to name a few. Within my practice, I would say that I have endured many success stories treating those with anxiety and depression. I feel that it is very rewarding when you are able to help restore confidence, self-worth, and purpose for those struggling to make positive change in their life. My journey into the world of mental health care was born from both personal experience and a genuine curiosity about human behavior. Long before I ever stepped into a therapy room as a clinician, I was someone who people naturally turned to for support. I saw the pain people carried — the silent battles, the resilience behind every smile — and I wanted to do more than just witness it. I wanted to understand it and be part of the healing process. During my early years of education, I was drawn to psychology, fascinated by how the mind works and how past experiences shape present realities. But it wasn’t until I had a profound experience with a mentor, therapist, or possibly my own challenges that I truly felt the calling. I realized that healing isn’t linear, and the space between suffering and growth can be sacred when held with compassion and skill. I pursued formal education in mental health, immersing myself in evidence-based practices, counseling theories, and most importantly, learning how to be with someone in their pain — not to fix it, but to help them navigate through it. My clinical training taught me technique, but my clients taught me presence, humility, and the power of human connection. Now, as a professional therapist, I see each session as a courageous act of vulnerability — on both sides. I hold space for grief, trauma, hope, uncertainty, and transformation. My work isn’t just a career; it’s a calling rooted in empathy, resilience, and a deep respect for the human experience.
Tameika Ivey offers therapy covered by Medicaid - Peach State Health Plan and Peach State Health Plan (Managed Medicaid) in Georgia.
I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my practice by helping clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral challenges. Together, we explore how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected, and I guide clients in developing more realistic, balanced ways of thinking. I also use structured interventions like thought records, behavioral experiments, and coping skills training to support long-term change. CBT allows my clients to gain insight and build practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, and other challenges.
I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by teaching clients skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. These core DBT strategies are especially helpful for individuals struggling with intense emotions, relationship difficulties, or impulsive behaviors. I often weave DBT-informed tools into sessions by validating the client’s current experience while also supporting their growth toward healthier coping strategies. My goal is to help clients develop a balance between acceptance and change, so they feel both understood and empowered.
I provide gender-affirming therapy by creating a safe, validating space where clients of all gender identities and expressions feel seen, respected, and supported. I approach each individual with curiosity and openness, honoring their lived experience without assumption or judgment. I affirm and advocate for clients exploring or transitioning their gender identity, and I offer support with navigating gender dysphoria, coming out, medical or social transitions, and experiences of discrimination or marginalization. I use inclusive language, continually educate myself on LGBTQIA+ issues, and collaborate with clients to ensure their goals are centered and respected. Whether someone is questioning, transitioning, or simply seeking a space to be fully themselves, my aim is to empower clients to live authentically and confidently.
Cultural sensitivity is a core part of my therapeutic approach. I strive to honor and respect each client’s unique cultural background, values, and lived experiences. I recognize how race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, and generational history can shape a person’s worldview and mental health journey. In my practice, I create space for clients to share their stories without fear of judgment, and I listen with humility and openness. I remain committed to ongoing education, self-reflection, and unlearning of biases to ensure that therapy is not only safe but affirming and empowering. My goal is to meet clients where they are — with cultural awareness, responsiveness, and respect guiding every step of our work together.
