My name is Kate. I am a licensed professional counselor, who specializes in virtual counseling. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, & depression. My clients are often those who have experienced childhood trauma, those whose anxiety hinders their ability to engage with the world and form friendships, individuals grieving the loss of loved ones or other significant losses, those who struggle with self-doubt and feelings of impostor syndrome, and individuals who feel overwhelmed by sadness or depression to the point where it affects their daily functioning. I tell my clients to think of me as walking with them on their path to better mental health. I am here for them as a guide, listening and empowering them in any way I can. With that said, I can be direct and challenging at times. This will happen if I feel that the client can go deeper, or if the client is holding back. Sometimes we need to go through the “yuck” to understand and to help us heal. But that doesn’t happen right out of the gate. In addition, if needed or requested, I also provide quick check-ins with my clients. I find that sometimes, between sessions, a quick "how are you doing? or any questions?" can help a client who may be struggling.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session is all about establishing a connection, getting to know each other, and understanding the challenges you're facing. I want you to feel comfortable and supported every step of the way. Understanding your unique experiences helps me tailor a treatment plan to best meet your needs. We can explore different options and techniques to address your needs. From cognitive-behavioral strategies to mindfulness exercises, there's a range of tools we can pull from. Together, we'll find what works for you and fits seamlessly into your daily life. By the end of our session, I try to leave you with one or two coping techniques that you can start implementing right away.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Through years of working with a diverse range of clients, I've come to appreciate the uniqueness each person brings to therapy. Central to my practice is the belief that you, as the client, are the expert on your own experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Therefore, I employ an eclectic therapeutic approach that respects individual differences, allowing me to tailor treatment specifically to your needs. This includes drawing from various techniques and methods, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to ensure our sessions are effective and meaningful for you. My foundation is person-centered, emphasizing active listening and insightful questioning to deepen my understanding of your experiences. Between sessions, I provide practical tools to support your progress.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured therapeutic approach that is particularly effective for individuals who experience intense emotions, self-harm, or suicidal behavior. There are many benefits of DBT to include: Emotion Regulation: Clients learn to manage intense emotions without resorting to self-destructive behaviors. Improved Relationships: Clients develop healthier, more effective ways to interact with others. Crisis Management: Clients gain tools to survive crises without worsening the situation. Mindfulness: Clients increase their awareness and acceptance of the present moment, reducing impulsivity and reactivity. By incorporating these components and strategies into clinical sessions, DBT helps clients build a life worth living by reducing problematic behaviors and enhancing emotional and interpersonal skills.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used, evidence-based approach that focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors. There are many benefits to CBT to include: Symptom Reduction: Effective in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. By integrating these components and techniques, CBT helps clients develop healthier thought patterns, behaviors, and coping strategies, leading to improved mental health and well-being.
