You struggled to get out of bed today. You just don’t see the point sometimes, working to exist. It all seems so hard to do. You feel more alone in the world than you do at home. It’s like you don’t really fit in anywhere, always feeling anxious, awkward, and self-conscious. You have tried to get help but no one really understands. You’ve tried to talk to your parents about what happened in the past and they make excuses or make it about themselves. You wonder if your memories are real or your imagination. No one really believes you, in fact they blame you when bad things have happened. But your body still lets you know of the pain as you feel like you want to jump out of your skin or you startle easily or maybe you just feel nothing all the time. Are you broken? You don’t want to keep feeling numb and afraid. You don’t want to continue in relationships that leave you feeling less than or abused. But you wonder if you deserve to be happy like other people. You don’t even know what happiness would look like for you because it’s just so uncomfortable- in your skin, at work, and in relationships. You can feel anger percolating so you shut it down. Your head is barely above water and to go there would make you drown. You really don't want to talk about what happened but you know going on like this isn't really living. Are you ready to get started? Let’s move your life from feeling like you are stuck sleepwalking to being awake and engaged. Contact me here to schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation for trauma therapy. https://overcomeanxietytrauma.com

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will discuss what brings you to therapy, what it’s like working with me, and gauge if I’m a good fit for you. We will talk about your expectations for therapy and mine, too. We will review your intake documents, start developing a treatment plan, and throughout the process I will be asking for your input and answering questions. You will see I have a sense of humor that I bring into my work. I know it is difficult talking about the worst things that happened in your life and I try to create a sense of safety and connection from our first meeting to help make it easier.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths are working with people who have had suffered from neglect, abuse, and traumatic events. I create a safe environment, work at the pace that feels right for my client, and bring humor into therapy. I am continually investing in my education with top educators in the field of trauma and anxiety so that I can bring best practices to each session. I understand trauma and panic attacks, agoraphobia, and OCD. Trauma symptoms can appear as lack of motivation, similar to ADHD, depression, and anxiety. You might be blaming yourself for feeling stuck in the past and unable to cope on your own. Trauma happens in relationship and so does healing from it. I have been certified in Dan Siegel's Interpersonal Neurobiology. I have completed EMDR 1&2 trainings. I have been certified in Bessel van der Kolk's Traumatic Stress Studies Certification Program. I have been certified in Gabor Mate's Compassionate Inquiry year long program and completed the mentorship program. I have also completed Bessel van der Kolk’s Neurofeedback Certification program. I understand that trauma affects our mind, body, and brain. I find ways to do our work looking at each aspect of our being so that real change can occur.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have been EMDR 1 & 2 trained. I helped to open a non-profit clinic where EMDR is the primary treatment modality. I have been using EMDR with clients for nearly 10 years.

Compassion Focused

I am certified in Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry modality which is a trauma informed practice. This methodology focuses on safety and connection to help clients discover their authentic selves that they had to abandon due to lack of attunement and attachment early in life.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I am informed in this methodology and it is one of the primary modalities I use with clients. IFS elements exist in the primary modality I use daily with clients.

Trauma Informed Care

All of my work has focused on trauma and I've completed Bessel van der Kolk's Traumatic Stress Studies Certification. I use a body, mind, brain approach to therapy, understanding that the trauma happened to your body as well as the mind and we need to do our work in the body as well. I use Dan Segal's Interpersonal Neurobiology, Stephen Porges Polyvagal Theory, Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry, and Peter Levine's Somatic interventions to help clients regulate their nervous system.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain.
