Hi! My name is Mai Yang (she/her). I am a licensed clinical social worker CA #113056. I have over 8 years of experience providing counseling to students in the school setting and 5 years of experience providing counseling to women and children who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. I enjoy working with all age ranges. Each age range brings on their own unique challenges and growth. Besides schools and dv and sa work, I am also passionate about working with the AAPI community and military. I am a military spouse and personally understand the hardship of the military life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, it will be me getting to know you and what your goal(s) in therapy are. But it will also be you getting to know me and figuring out if I am someone who you can trust enough to help you on your journey to healing.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a caring, empathetic, compassionate person who truly cares for you and what you want to achieve in your healing journey. I am also a great listener who comes with a strength based perspective. I have many years of experience working with different age ranges. The preteens and teens appreciate someone just listening to them and helping them navigating school and everything that comes with being a teen in today's world. I also have experience working with adults who have experienced trauma especially domestic violence and have helped them through their crisis along with navigating what happens next.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I have over 5 years providing trauma informed care to women, children, and teens. I use trauma as the foundation to my work with my clients. Being trauma informed allows me to better understand what is going on with my client mentally and physically.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help my client connect what is going on with them emotionally and cognitively. By helping my clients connect the dots, it helps them become more aware of what is going on with them mentally and physically.

Strength-Based

All of my clients have unique strengths that they don't realize that they have to help them meet their goal in therapy. I like to acknowledge and remind them of their strengths to help them in reaching their goal.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I am an South east Asian woman of color and have provided counseling services to AAPI women for over 5 years. I also worked in an urban schools where many of my students are from diverse families. Being culturally sensitive helps me better understand my client and helps me be more aware of how their culture and traditions affect their mental health.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe that my clients know what it is that they want when they comes to therapy but have a hard time voicing and figuring out how to get to their goal. I like to help guide my clients in a nondirective way to help them achieve their goal.
