Hello, my name is Denise Dews I am a new PMHNP-BC, I’m here to help you with your mental health concerns and provide you with the best possible care.” I can provide medication treatment as well as psychotherapy. I have a vast array of experience in mental health, as I have been a psychiatric nurse since 2011. My focus is on treating children, adolescents and adults through the life span. My passion is working with individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder/ dual diagnosis, depression, bipolar disorders, and psychotic and neurodevelopment disorders such as ADHD. I am committed to always providing client education, evidence-based techniques, as well as evidence-based treatment. My goal as a PMHNP-BC is to provide empathetic, engaged and client-centered services. My passion is to be an advocate for people who struggle to be heard and respected, especially in disadvantaged communities, where barriers such as financial constraints or biases may hinder effective treatment. I see myself as a relentless problem-solver who doesn’t shy away from a new challenge. Denise would love to see patients from the ages of 5 - 60+, regardless of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, or religion. I am offering telehealth services
In our first section, we will start with introductions, and build rapport, we will also look into specific challenges that are causing you concerns. This will help us create a tailored plan for us to create a plan to work on moving forward.
Denise is non-judgemental, and she specializes in treating those with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, personality disorders, bipolar disorders, psychosis and ADHD. I am committed to destigmatizing mental health and enjoy educating the public about mental illnesses.
As an African American PMHNP-BC I am acutely aware of how stigmatizing and traumatic mental health has been towards oppressed communities of all kinds, and I will attempt to undo to do some of that by focusing on adult and childhood ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders. Denise understands that treating children involves supporting the parents/caregivers.
Explain to client on thoughts leads to feelings, we will examine your belief. We will discuss how your beliefs are distorting your thoughts, which leads to negative feelings. in all we will work on changing your thoughts.
Motivational interviewing is a counseling method that allow the patient motivation to change by means of the patient understanding their motivation. I will show empathy and empowerment with the patient during conversation, which will best serve the patient and encourage them to follow their care plan.
