Do you feel that you are not worthy of help or that they have no value, or are not likely to speak up and seek the help you need? Are you living with mental health illness in silence, are you afraid of many possible repercussions like limited career advancement opportunities, employment discrimination, exclusion from social circles, loss of spouse/partner, and judgment from the religious community? Matthew 11:28. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.” My name is Pauline Ekeh PMHNP-BC. I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner licensed and board certified in the state of New Jersey to provide psychiatric care for clients with mental illness. I have experience with a wide variety of individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma and grief/loss. I have experience with adolescents and adults from different cultures and backgrounds. I am pleased to support my clients through difficult mental health symptoms, and I bring knowledgeable and compassionate perspectives to client care. I like when my clients ask questions, and I'm always happy to address their concerns. My passion is helping people with mental illness. I want my clients to feel empowered because their symptoms leave them feeling powerless. One of my most important roles as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is to instill hope in my clients. Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses are treatable, with medication management, we have more options for clients who struggle with mental health illness

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

We’ll most likely spend the first few minutes of our session getting to know one another. We would work best if we’re able to connect with one another on a personal level initially. We will feel free to talk through our favorite books or things we like as a way to get a sense of how the two of us will communicate with one another.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I believe in person-centered care with evidence-based treatment approaches and I strongly feel that this approach will build a connection with my clients and it is a vital aspect of providing care. I use evidence-based practices with a focus on person-centered care and optimal clinical outcomes targeting quality of life, maximizing wellness, and recovery. In this approach, I will incorporate the total person and their life apart from their role as a client. In person-centered practice, as a provider, I will ask clients receiving care what they feel, believe, and prefer, and how they perform and respond to the activities they value in their context, not just in a controlled clinical environment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Areas of biggest strength are setting up a calm, safe, warm, and caring environment that will help to build and maintain trust, respect, professional intimacy, empathy and power that helps manage * Depression * Anxiety Disorders * Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). * Bipolar disorder * Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). * Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). * psychotic disorders. * Substance use disorders

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I Love working with teens and young adult because their population continues growing in number, diversity and mental health needs. Young people show alarming increases in the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and other behavioral health challenges that have consistently increased over the past decade. Estimating the current mental health workforce serving teens and young adults remains challenging.
