Welcome to the safe space that you have been looking for. My name is Kayla, and I am a licensed therapist in MN and WI, with two Master's degrees in Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I focus on working with adolescents through adults of any age and like to take a person-centered approach to understand what you would like to get out of this process. There is no one way to engage in therapy for someone being so vulnerable; therefore, I strive to create an environment that allows for personal growth. With the experiences I bring to the therapeutic alliance, you can expect trust and openness.
In the first session, you can expect an open dialogue of getting to know each other. This allows for the client to ask any questions without judgment or fear. The initial session is to establish what brings you here today, understanding what you would like to take away from the sessions, and what it means to work towards your ultimate goal. If you do not have a clear picture of how to achieve that, I am so glad that I am here to help. At the end of the session, I look forward to hearing ways that we can collaborate so that an effective treatment plan can be created for you.
As a provider, I take a warm and empathic approach, that is well-balanced with identifying ways to help you through this process. By providing a safe space for feelings and thoughts to be shared, it allows me to demonstrate responsiveness to your concerns and foster an element of your ability to trust. I want to empower you as a person to achieve what is best for you. Being creative and inspiring through use of humor at times, allows for you to reach your potential.
Understanding how we have experienced relationships, and the impact of our experiences is a key foundational approach to understanding ourselves. Through identifying ways in which we have learned to cope including the addition of stress and trauma, this allows for us to grow and be the healthiest version of ourselves.
The way in which we feel impacts how we think; this causes us to respond in ways that have proven to be rewarding or difficult. By understanding how to change thought processes without being asked to change our feelings, allows us to make improved decisions to benefit oneself as a whole.
Childhood aversive and adulthood experiences look different for many people and cannot be interpreted one way. Through exploring emotional processing and focusing on body sensations and responses, this helps build skills to address the negative responses that one has.
