Hello, my name is Stacey. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 25 years of experience in behavioral health care, substance use treatment, and child welfare services. I will be available for virtual sessions beginning in April, and in-office sessions beginning mid-May 2024. I utilize an attachment-informed, trauma sensitive, and strengths-based approach to working with individuals and families around a variety of needs including adjustment issues, learning and behavioral challenges, mood and anxiety related concerns, trauma, grief and loss, gender journey, and life transitions. I provide a safe space for personal exploration, inquiry, reflection, growth, and development. I am most interested to know your goals, and how you envision achieving them. I am happy to walk along and provide a warm listening ear, skills and resources, or a structured approach to achieving your goals. I rely on assessment tools to capture baseline data regarding symptoms, and to measure progress over time.
In a first session, we will begin with getting to know one another. I would like to end the session with a basic understanding of your current life circumstances, symptoms that concern you, and your goals for therapy. During the first few visits, I may ask questions about your life history. We might utilize additional questionnaires to assess your symptoms. Finally, we will formulate a plan for session frequency that meets your needs.
My greatest strengths as a provider are adaptability and creativity. I am comfortable using highly structured treatment methods, or simply being a warm, reflective presence, and all points in between. I want you to guide me toward what you need in each session be it debriefing after a stressful week or event, guided relaxation, in depth processing of past experiences, expressive activities such as play, art, or movement, skills-based support, or reflective listening.
I enjoy working with individuals who are motivated and curious about themselves, others, and the world around them. I find joy in joining with individuals who come to therapy with a sprinkling of each of the 7 attitudes of mindfulness: non-judging, patience, beginner's mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go. These attitudes can be deepened, and cultivated over time to support growth, and meaningful, lasting change.
Fully trained in Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for treatment of single-incident, and complex trauma. In some instances, EMDR methods can be useful in the treatment of anxiety, and phobias. To determine if EMDR treatment is appropriate, thorough assessment, and a period of stabilization and engagement in talk therapy for 2-6 months is necessary.
