Hi! I'm Jen Tucker, a licensed mental health counselor who is passionate about serving others. I'm a military veteran and a military spouse. I'm also a wife, mom, and grandmother. I've been through a lot in my life. Most of you have too. After all, you find yourself here looking for something. It is my firm belief that each and every one of us has tremendous potential. We all have unique talents and skills, honed and sharpened through our life experiences. These experiences, while crucial to shaping us, can also leave us hurt, confused, numb, or insecure. It is paramount that we stop along our journey to take stock, address our needs, heal, and refocus. Sometimes, we realize we may benefit from having extra support or guidance through these moments. That is where therapy can help. Throughout my counseling career, I have had the privilege of being able to walk beside clients as they process the past, learn to be comfortable in the present, and get excited for the future. I am certified in trauma and treat clients with a wide range of concerns. Whether you feel ready to dive into therapy, or you are just contemplating the idea, I'd love to hear from you. I am currently accepting video clients for individual therapy. If you aren't ready to make contact, I have some resources available for self-reflection. Check out my blog at NotWavingButDrowning.org or my TikTok @MHMinute, where you'll find videos on a variety of mental health topics.

Hi, I’m Joe. I’ve worked in the mental health field for 27 years across substance use treatment, outpatient care, and hospital settings. I’ve supported individuals and families through crisis, transition, and long-term growth. I work well with young adults, adults, and families who are navigating stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, or major life changes. I also have extensive experience working with men who may struggle to express emotions directly and instead feel stuck in withdrawal, irritability, or self-doubt. As a veteran, I understand the mindset and pressures that can come with military life. Across all of my work, I aim to provide a grounded, steady presence where honesty, insight, and meaningful change can take place.

I'm a queer, trans, and neurodivergent Egyptian therapist experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ adults and adolescents. Although I take immense pride in these labels and in my communities, my therapeutic approach does not expect you to fit yourself neatly into any boxes. Instead, my role is to help you learn how to live in alignment with your specific values and priorities, particularly when it comes to figuring out the gray areas in life. It's tricky answering questions like, How do you reconnect with your heritage after experiencing it in hurtful ways? How do you heal from childhood trauma while preserving familial relationships that are still important to you? How do you build meaningful friendships and romantic relationships when self-love still feels like an enigma? These are the types of questions I particularly enjoy exploring with my clients. We will always take the time we need to figure out the concrete skills necessary for navigating daily life (e.g. emotional regulation, communication strategies, adaptive reframes for unhelpful thoughts, etc.), but the next level of growth lives in these nebulous existential questions. By compounding established skills with acceptance, psychological flexibility, and letting go of control where it is not adaptive, we can help you foster the kind of inner peace that adds both serenity and deeper meaning to daily life.

Hi, I’m La’Kisha “Kisha” Jordan and I believe therapy is a healing space rooted in truth, transformation, and cultural connection. I work with teens, individuals, women, and families who are tired of just surviving and ready to start healing—for real. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship stress, trauma, or just feeling lost in the noise of life, I hold space that is safe, soulful, and judgment-free. My approach is eclectic and intuitive—I don’t just use one method because you’re not one-size-fits-all. I blend evidence-based techniques like CBT and DBT with creativity, storytelling, spirituality, and real talk. One session might include grounding and deep breathing; another might involve journaling, laughter, or hard truths said with love. I meet you where you are, and walk with you toward where you want to be. I’m not just a therapist behind a desk—I’m a woman who’s lived, lost, loved, and learned. I see you. I hear you. And I believe in your ability to grow through what you go through.

Hi- I’m Heather! I’m a licensed clinical social worker offering telehealth therapy in the state of Virginia. One of my greatest professional passions is introducing clients to EMDR therapy! I am an EMDR trained therapist working toward obtaining EMDR certification and am actively accepting new clients who are interested in exploring EMDR.
If you’ve tried talk therapy before and found that you’ve hit a wall, you’re not alone. Talk therapy may help us gain new insights into our patterns of behavior or relationship dynamics, but we often still have trouble changing the way we respond to particular triggers. Despite years of talk therapy, many of us find that there is still an unbridgeable gap between what our rational thinking brain knows and our felt sense of truth.

Do you cognitively believe that you are not a bad/unworthy/unloved person but deep in your body you cannot shake the sense that these core beliefs are true? EMDR can help resolve this disconnect.

Talk therapy work is done in the left hemisphere of the brain (this is the part of the brain where logical, rational thought occurs). But trauma is stored in the RIGHT hemisphere of the brain and the limbic system. Language does not easily address memories or beliefs stored in this part of the body and you may stay stuck living with maladaptive core beliefs and reliving traumatic memories until you can incorporate your RIGHT side of your brain in therapy. EMDR is one way of doing this. EMDR operates under the theory that the brain has a natural system in place to move toward adaptive resolution. Trauma blocks this system preventing us from fully processing our memories. EMDR reactivates this system, allowing our brain to fully integrate trauma so we can be free to live life on our own terms.

Hello and welcome. I really enjoy getting to know people and building genuine connections as we move through the ups and downs of life together. In our work, we might focus on relationships, managing stress, improving communication, navigating life transitions, and finding steadiness with emotions and thoughts. We can also make space to understand past experiences, explore patterns in dating and intimacy, and work toward a more balanced and meaningful life. I’m especially interested in the parts of ourselves that don’t always get attention—the quieter or “hidden” pieces that often have a lot to teach us. Hi, My name is Kristel. I am an LCSW who provides talk therapy via Telehealth. I am a multifaceted individual with diverse life experiences that inform my perspective. As a former military brat and spouse, I've intimately understood the complexities of life's transitions. My journey has taken me from being a young wife to mature single and dating, stay-at-home mom to working mom, anxious new parent to accepting mother of teens, rule follower to empowered, scarcity mindset to abundance mindset, employee to entrepreneur, stuck to the growth mindset, financially insecure to thriving, trauma victim to survivor, neuro-ambiguous to neurodivergent, granting me a unique appreciation for all the roles I have experienced in my life. I'm a devoted mother of two children, and my path has been marked by significant challenges, including the struggle with infertility and profound grief. I proudly identify as a feminist and supporter of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community. These aspects of my identity deeply influence my approach to life and work. With a background in working with families, individuals, and children, I bring a wealth of experience. My personal journey has shaped my empathetic, compassionate, and inclusive perspective, which I offer as a source of support and understanding to those I work with.

My work is rooted in creating a space that feels genuinely safe where you don't have to perform, pretend, or have it all figured out before walking through the door. I'll be honest with you, I'm not the therapist who will sit quietly and just nod. I'm warm, I'm real, and I'm straightforward. I believe you deserve a therapist who will actually engage with you, celebrate your wins, and gently challenge you when you need it. No sugarcoating, but always with compassion. My approach blends evidence-based techniques with genuine human connection. I specialize in working with women, young adults, adolescents, first responders, healthcare workers, and immigrants navigating life's most difficult moments. Whether you're carrying invisible weight, feeling stuck, or simply ready to finally put yourself first, I want to help you get there. Outside of my clinical work I am a mother, author, speaker, and advocate for mental health awareness. Life has taught me firsthand that healing is possible even when it feels impossibly far away. That lived experience shapes everything about how I show up for my clients. You don't have to keep holding it all alone. I'm here.

Hello, my name is Michelle. I believe therapy is a time to examine internalized experiences that shape our perspectives and behaviors. Engaging in introspective work together can challenge us to reframe maladaptive thoughts. I aim to assist clients with managing emotional dysregulation and symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and trauma in a safe, nonjudgmental space. I hope to foster growth and strengthen coping skills during difficult transitional points in a person’s life. I am interested in exploring my clients' family of origin and attachment styles. I have a special sensitivity to sociocultural factors and intergenerational trauma. I embrace the complexities that make up the lived experiences of my clients and affirm their unique identities.

Welcome! My name is Kate, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I value creating a therapeutic space that is warm, respectful, empathic, and validating. I’m deeply committed to supporting individuals and couples as they tackle life’s challenges, with a focus on fostering growth, resilience, and connection. My approach blends expertise with humanity, tailoring interventions to fit your unique needs. As a psychologist, I strive to be your teammate in the healing and growth process, helping you uncover strengths, overcome barriers, and build a life aligned with your values and goals (and maybe even a few laughs along the way). For over six years, I honed my skills working at several VA systems, where I had the privilege of learning from incredible Veterans and colleagues alike. This included year-long specialty trainings in Prolonged Exposure for PTSD (PE-PTSD), Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT-PTSD), and the full-throttle, comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT and DBT-PE). While at my various placements (e.g., UMASS Hahnemann Family Health Center, AUNE Psychological Service Center, multiple VAs, etc.), I worked with majority LGBTQIA+ individuals and developed a passion for working with LGBTQIA+ folx. I served as the Transgender and Gender Diverse Group co-leader for several years, and my caseloads were majority LGBTQIA+, Women Veterans, and Veterans/People of Color. Along the way, I was awarded the Outstanding Early Career Achievement, served as the MHC Group Psychotherapy Coordinator, and worked as a comprehensive DBT team member at two VA facilities. These experiences didn’t just fill my 'toolbox'—they shaped my deep respect for the strength, complexity, and resilience of the people I’m honored to work with every day.

We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Virginia from Norfolk to Roanoke! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Virginia.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
