Hello I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License #106348) and have worked in the field since 2011. I grew up in the San Diego area and have worked in various hospitals and clinics in my local community. I obtained my Baccalaureate Degree in Cognitive Psychology from University of California Irvine and my Master’s Degree in Marital and Family Therapy from University of San Diego. My experience includes working with individuals, couples, and teenagers (ages 12 and up) at a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric facilities, outpatient programs, residential treatment facility for mood and addiction issues, and as part of an emergency crisis team. These experiences have allowed me to work with a variety of different clients experiencing various mental health concerns and or psychosocial issues. I have extensive knowledge and experience working with clients struggling with substance use, mood, anxiety, OCD and Chronic Pain issues.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

What you can expect for the first session is for me to explain some of the logistical processes that one must be aware of when engaging in individual therapy. This will then transition to a lot of clinical and assessment related questions to get the best sense of what the problem areas are and how I can best help. This will also be a great opportunity for you to ask questions and make sure that we are on the same page on where to go from here and to develop treatment goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My experience has centered around working with teenage and adult clients that struggle with mood related issues, OCD and otehr Anxiety issues, as well as Chronic Pain issues. I have specialized training in treating OCD through Exposure Response Prevention(ERP). As well as treating clients who struggle with Chronic Pain through the use of Pain Reprocessing Therapy(PRT). I also have experience working with anxiety, grief and loss, relational issues, emotion regulation, life transitions and crisis intervention. I have a particular interest in the connection between mood related issues and trauma.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I generally work through an ACT lens working to bolster psychological flexibility through value driven committed actions. I have seen success using this modality in treating addiction, chronic pain, anxiety and depression.

Trauma Informed Care

I approach all cases through a Trauma informed lens taking into account a client's past child and adult experiences, and how they impact current life outlook, behavior, emotional disturbances and relationships. I use different methods to further explore these trauma's, which include Narrative and Schema therapy modalities. Getting a better understanding of the impact of these experiences and addressing them in a safe space can allow people to heal and experience an improvement in quality of life.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

I have been trained in ERP and have seen success in both my teenage and adult clients. This is a behavioral and systematic approach that helps increase tolerance and regulation of the anxiety and distress surrounding obsessive thoughts by engaging in step by step exposure techniques while working to decrease compulsions that ultimately fuel the obsessive thoughts.
