Hello and welcome! I'm Chiquita. Are you experiencing overwhelming emotions, having difficulty balancing life’s stressors, or struggling with finding motivation or purpose? Have you been thinking about how to move forward? Well, now is a great time to begin your new journey. Each person and their journey is unique. I look forward to supporting you in identifying the changes you would like to make, acknowledging your potential, and developing realistic and practical steps towards reaching your goals. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) based in Georgia with twelve years experience working as a psychotherapist. I have provided therapy to individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, stress management, low self-esteem, trauma, relationship stressors, anger management, and substance use. In addition, I have worked with populations to include children, adolescents, and adults in settings such as outpatient counseling, mobile crisis, and prison. However, rest assured that sessions will be tailored to focus on your specific goals and needs, as I utilize evidenced-based therapeutic approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Finally, thank you for considering me as a someone to support and empower you on your mental health journey. It takes courage to seek help with starting the healing process, challenging yourself, overcoming obstacles, and seeking a more fulfilling and happier life. If you are considering whether I am a good fit for you, please schedule a free consultation to further explore whether you would like to collaborate with me on your journey. However, if you feel an assured connection, please go ahead and schedule a therapy appointment with me today! I look forward to working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, I would like to allow time and space for us to get to know each other to further identify your specific needs. This will allow us to create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. The intake session is not a therapy session. I will also prioritize answering any questions you may have about therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths include providing a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere for individuals to be vulnerable and share. We all deal with life's challenges and I believe it is important to meet you where you are at in life. Building an authentic therapeutic relationship is essential. What is more, I believe that I extend genuine concern through encouraging others to gain self-awareness and find their strengths as they work towards their goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for twelve years to assist clients with becoming more aware of their emotions, thoughts and behaviors in an effort to change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors, create healthier habits, respond to stressors and situations more positively, and improve their mood. I utilize this treatment method with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, grief, stress, substance use, relationship issues, adjusting to new life stressors or medical conditions, and work-related stressors.

Motivational Interviewing

I have utilized Motivational Interviewing to engage clients in discussion about behaviors of which they may be having mixed feelings or are uncertain about changing. I elicit change talk to help strengthen their motivation and commitment to making changes. I utilize this treatment method with clients struggling with substance use, low self-esteem, and physical health/activity goals.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have utilized Solution Focused Brief Therapy with clients by assisting in collaboratively setting achievable goals, encouraging the client to identify and utilize personal strengths/skills/resources/supports, focusing on empowerment and the client’s own self-efficacy to create positive change through shifting the client’s perspectives and helping them see the possibilities for change and steps toward a brighter outcome in a short time frame. This is one approach I utilize with clients struggling with depression as this approach not only empowers the client and focuses on self-efficacy, but helps the individual experience positive changes quickly, providing a sense of hope and motivation.
