Latisha S. Christensen is a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in complex trauma, race issues, and financial therapy for the treatment of money-related disorders. She practices virtually at Money Talks Baltimore LLC for clients residing Maryland, Virginia, NC and SC and Money Talks Tampa, LLC for clients in Florida. "The most ignored relationship is our relationship with money despite the meaning it has in all the spaces of life. It dictates your status, where you live, what your drive and who you associate with. I believe a healthy relationship with money is the key to wholeness and mental health."

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The initial session is an opportunity for clients to share the experiences/challenges holding them hostage to pain and discomfort. From there we decide if a counseling model or a treatment model is appropriate. Whether a client is seeking growth and a partner in problem-solving, or a desire to improve functionality from debilitating symptoms, trust is built and a safe space is cultivated. Clients can expect to feel supported with gentle pushes to disrupt patterns and change beliefs that are self-limiting.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of the biggest strengths I possess as a clinician is the ability to target financial/money related issues while also addressing mental and behavioral health challenges.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This method is most often used with EAP clients or clients seeking time limited psychotherapy that focuses on achieving positive outcomes. We start with a "miracle question" and use the response to develop goals. Clients are likely to experience growth within 3-12 sessions.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is most often used with clients who wish to incorporate mindfulness-based approaches with behavioral change strategies to address emotional discomforts.

Strength-Based

A strength perspective is an orientation in social work that emphasizes client resources, capabilities, support systems and motivations to meet challenges and overcome adversity. Strength-based approaches are used to achieve and maintain client interpersonal and social well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

An approach to treatment that utilizes selected concepts and techniques from behaviorism, social learning theory, action therapy, task-centered treatment and therapies based on cognitive models. Problems are addressed directly and focused on the present.
