About me

Hi, I’m Ben Addison, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with more than 13 years of experience helping children, adolescents, and adults navigate emotional, behavioral, and life challenges. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Georgia and have provided care across outpatient behavioral health, private practice, hospitals, emergency departments, and trauma-focused settings. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief, relationship difficulties, substance use concerns, self-esteem challenges, and major life transitions. I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents, including young people who have experienced complex trauma, abuse, behavioral challenges, and involvement with the legal or child welfare systems. I also have experience supporting survivors of sexual trauma and individuals navigating difficult or high-stress life experiences. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental, collaborative, and practical. I believe therapy should be a place where you—or your child—can feel safe, understood, and comfortable being yourself. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I work with each client to understand what they are experiencing, recognize their strengths, develop healthier coping skills, and create meaningful changes that carry into everyday life. Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself or looking for support for your child or teenager, we will work together to identify what matters most and develop a path forward that feels realistic and achievable.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, and my goal is to help you feel comfortable from the start. During our first session, we’ll spend time getting to know one another, discussing what brings you to therapy, and identifying the goals you would like to achieve. I will ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and any challenges you may be facing. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine whether I am the right fit for your needs. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I believe meaningful change happens when we work together in a supportive, judgment-free environment. By the end of our first session, we’ll begin developing a plan tailored to your unique goals and circumstances.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths is creating a safe, welcoming space where clients feel heard, understood, and respected. I believe healing and growth begin with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and authenticity. With more than 13 years of experience in behavioral health, medical social work, trauma care, crisis intervention, and substance use treatment, I bring both clinical expertise and practical problem-solving skills to our work together. I have experience helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, relationship challenges, life transitions, healthcare-related stress, and complex emotional experiences. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and goal-oriented. I strive to help clients gain insight, build resilience, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change while recognizing and building upon the strengths they already possess.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with children, adolescents, and adults who are seeking meaningful change and support in navigating life’s challenges. I especially enjoy working with children and teens who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, complex trauma, behavioral or emotional challenges, self-esteem, identity, or difficult life transitions. I also work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, relationship concerns, grief, stress, substance use concerns, and major life changes. My ideal client does not need to have everything figured out—they simply need a willingness to show up, be curious about themselves, and work toward greater understanding, healthier coping skills, and improved overall well-being. When working with children and adolescents, I value collaborating with families when appropriate to help create meaningful and lasting change.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

My trauma-informed approach is grounded in creating a safe, supportive, and empowering therapeutic environment. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals impacted by childhood trauma, sexual abuse, PTSD, interpersonal violence, medical trauma, and other adverse life experiences. I understand that trauma can affect emotional well-being, relationships, self-esteem, and daily functioning in profound ways. I work collaboratively with clients to build trust, develop effective coping skills, strengthen resilience, and process difficult experiences at a pace that feels safe and manageable. My goal is to help clients move beyond survival mode and create meaningful healing, growth, and lasting change.

Humanistic

I believe each person has unique strengths, resilience, and the capacity for growth. Using a humanistic approach, I create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel understood and accepted. Therapy is a collaborative partnership focused on helping you better understand yourself, overcome barriers to fulfillment, build on your strengths, and foster self-awareness, self-acceptance, and empowerment to create meaningful, lasting change.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify and change unhelpful thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress. Throughout my career working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, medical settings, and trauma-informed care, I have used CBT techniques to help individuals manage anxiety, depression, stress, trauma-related symptoms, and life transitions. I work collaboratively with clients to recognize connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical coping skills and healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges. My goal is to help clients gain insight, build confidence, and create meaningful changes that improve daily functioning and overall well-being.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, client-centered approach that helps individuals explore ambivalence and strengthen motivation for change. Through my work with substance use disorders, behavioral health concerns, medical populations, and crisis intervention, I have helped clients identify personal goals, overcome barriers, and make lasting changes that align with their values. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I help them explore their own motivations, strengths, and readiness for change. This approach fosters empowerment, self-efficacy, and confidence while supporting clients as they take meaningful steps toward their goals.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Therapy emphasizes strengths, resilience, and practical solutions rather than focusing solely on problems. I believe clients already possess many of the tools needed for growth, and my role is to help identify and build upon those strengths. Drawing from my experience in healthcare, crisis intervention, trauma treatment, and behavioral health, I help clients clarify goals, recognize existing successes, and develop achievable steps toward positive change. This approach can be particularly effective for individuals seeking practical strategies, increased confidence, and forward movement in their personal, professional, or emotional lives.
