Hi, my name is Jason Tanner and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I specialize in EMDR among other therapies. Life’s challenges can be difficult if you’re facing them alone. My job is to listen carefully regarding your interest in therapy, create a comfortable atmosphere to address difficult personal matters, and tailor therapy in a manner that best fits your needs.
In our first appointment, you can expect us to dive right in to the specific challenges you’re facing. I aim for you to leave the appointment feeling understood and hopeful that the initial plan established in that meeting will address your concerns.
Over the past 15 years I have helped clients with a variety of concerns. I prefer a straight forward approach that is authentic, productive, and creates a more comfortable atmosphere.
Sometimes therapy addresses stress in relationships with family members or romantic partners. Other times, the focus is on personal concerns such as fear, shame, or doubts. I specialize in reducing stress and anxiety, addressing relationship issues, and improving self-esteem.
I have found EMDR to be highly effective for a majority of clients. Many times clients have disturbing memories that continue to influence their experiences in life. With EMDR we identify the relevant memories and assist the client in fully resolving disturbing memories in an organized manner. Clients find a great deal of insight and emotional relief throughout the process.
Couples often seek therapy to improve communication, resolve conflicts, or rebuild trust. I assist with ensuring each client is able to sort out and communicate what they need to say and to be understood by one another in an empathetic manner. Through this process the aim is for couples to create a connection with each other that enables the couple to address future challenges together. This often includes a full resolution of an unresolved conflict where both clients feel positive and have mutual understanding in hindsight.
In every appointment it is my priority to really listen to clients and create an atmosphere that facilitates openness and trust. At times I will reflect back what I’m hearing so that clients know they are being understood and feel comfortable going further. My reflections and feedback are always authentic and when it’s necessary to challenge a client it is always delivered with empathy and positive regard.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients address faulty thinking and maladaptive behaviors. Clients appreciate the insight they gain when we identify the unpleasant feelings that are often at the source of their problems. With this insight we find more suitable methods of coping which often leads to reduced distress, productive behavior, and an increase in self-esteem.
I use Mindfulness-Based Therapy to teach coping methods tailored to the individual needs of clients. Clients appreciate knowing what techniques work best for varying symptoms with examples being panic attacks, generalized anxiety, lack of motivation, emotional regulation, and/or an inability to concentrate. This therapy is delivered in a manner to ensure clients are motivated to practice techniques outside of the clinical setting with ease.
