Hi! I'm Alexis. I've been a nurse practitioner for 24 years. I love being a psychiatric NP because it allows me to make a meaningful impact on people's lives during some of their most challenging times. The combination of compassionate care and clinical expertise enables me to help clients navigate their mental health journeys, fostering hope and resilience. I find great fulfillment in building therapeutic relationships, listening to their stories, and guiding them toward recovery. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth, making my work both rewarding and inspiring.
During our first session, we'll start with brief introductions, then get into what the issues are. You can expect to be asked about many aspects of your life so that I can tailor a treatment plan that is just right for you.
I have worked with all ages of people from 5 years old to 102. I am extremely empathetic and I will never be judgmental about anything you have to say. Often times I will even get you to laugh! Whether you have anxiety or are suffering from addiction I will work with you to find the best treatment plan that will produce long lasting results. Because I am also a family nurse practitioner, I have a comprehensive knowledge about medication management and any non psychiatric health issue you may have.
I love working with a wide variety of clients. I enjoy helping people who struggle with decision making and low self-esteem. I love working with people who feel stuck in their lives or have trouble dealing with change. Many of my clients have what it takes to improve, but need guidance figuring out the best way to do so. Many times my clients think there is something wrong with them but don't realize that they are not alone!
In my practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to empower clients to understand and transform their thought patterns. CBT is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify negative or distorted thoughts and replace them with more constructive beliefs. This method is particularly effective for addressing anxiety, depression, and stress-related issues, as it equips clients with practical tools to manage their emotions and behaviors. By fostering self-awareness and encouraging active problem-solving, CBT enables clients to develop healthier coping strategies, leading to meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.
In my practice, I employ Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a powerful tool to facilitate change and enhance client engagement. This client-centered approach fosters open dialogue and empowers individuals to explore their own motivations for change. By using reflective listening and strategic questioning, I help clients uncover and articulate their goals, enhancing their commitment to making positive choices. MI is particularly effective in addressing ambivalence, making it a valuable technique for clients facing challenges such as addiction, lifestyle changes, or mental health issues. Ultimately, this collaborative approach builds trust and encourages clients to take ownership of their journey toward lasting change.
In my practice, I incorporate Strength-Based Therapy to focus on clients' inherent strengths and resources, rather than solely addressing their challenges. This approach empowers individuals to recognize and build on their unique abilities, fostering resilience and self-efficacy. By highlighting past successes and personal strengths, clients gain confidence in their capacity to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Strength-Based Therapy promotes a positive and hopeful outlook, encouraging clients to actively engage in their healing process and create meaningful change in their lives. This collaborative and affirming approach cultivates a supportive environment where clients feel valued and capable of growth.
