As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and a strong foundation in technology to my practice. My background as an IT Engineer and Technical Trainer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory instilled in me a deep appreciation for analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the importance of clear communication. This, combined with my passion for helping others, led me to pursue a career in counseling. I specialize in evidence-based therapies such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). These approaches have proven effective in addressing a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress management. My goal is to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without judgment. I believe in empowering individuals to develop self-awareness, build resilience, and cultivate meaningful change. Whether you're navigating life transitions, struggling with emotional distress, or seeking personal growth, I am here to support you on your journey. I am a member of Mensa, and I bring a high level of intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning to my practice. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you." During our first session, a client can expect me to explore what has made them the person they are today. Part of neurology is understanding how the brain grows in different phases and how that impact is expressed over different periods of life. Then we will develop a treatment plan based upon their goals.
My greatest strength is a provider is that I have been the client. I have been to the darkest parts of depression and anxiety and found my way out. I heard a quote by Travis Walton once who said “to somebody who has experienced it No explanation is necessary, but to someone who has not no explanation is possible.” I have experienced depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress. And I have freed myself from them. I now lead a wonderful life and I would like to help you do the same.
My approach is to teach you the how and the why of depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress and then work together to figure out how to help you live your best life possible. I combine traditional counseling techniques and current neurological research to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. I provide a non-judgmental and compassionate atmosphere in which you can safely explore and work through feelings, thoughts, images and beliefs, conscious or unconscious, that may be keeping you stuck.
Have you been too strong for too long? You do not have to live this way. You do not have to accept a “new normal”. Depression, anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress can be managed and hopefully eliminated from your life. You can love your life again or maybe for the first time. Life in the modern world is difficult.
A traumatic event can be anything that threatens your sense of safety, such as an assault, combat experience, sexual trauma or a serious accident. Following traumatic events, some people develop symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD). Derived from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based treatment for the symptoms of PTSD. It can help you reprocess the traumatic event, freeing you from painful flashbacks and intense negative thoughts and feelings. Compared to other trauma therapies, accelerated resolution therapy works quickly, usually getting results in just a few sessions. ART uses rapid eye movements to mimic REM sleep and allows your brain to move a memory from emotional memory to long term memory.
Proverbs 3:5-6 states: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths”. When life throws us difficult circumstances it can be challenging to see the path the Lord is leading us on. As a Christian Counselor, I defer to Jesus in Matthew 6:34 when he states "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own". While this directive is far easier said than done, I am the author of the book "Make it to Midnight ~ Learning to Live When You Want to Die". I learned through my own struggles that living as Jesus directed; one day at a time, can lead to true healing.
