As a therapist specializing in serving individuals of color, I place great emphasis on promoting self-care and wellness among my clients. My goal is to assist my clients in navigating the intersectionality of their identities while prioritizing their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. I provide a supportive environment for clients to explore their unique experiences, cultural backgrounds, and societal pressures. My approach includes empowering clients to create personalized self-care routines, coping strategies, and resilience-building techniques that are tailored to their unique needs. Additionally, I provide various resources and methods to assist clients in cultivating self-awareness, establishing boundaries, coping with pressure, and fostering a sense of equilibrium and contentment in their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the initial therapy session, it is my preference to familiarize myself with my clients and establish a solid foundation for establishing a therapeutic bond. I begin by obtaining essential information about their background, current concerns, mental health history, and goals for therapy. This information facilitates the development of customized treatment plans and intervention strategies that are tailored to their distinct requirements, thereby promoting healing, resilience, and positive transformation.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

With my extensive experience of over ten years working with women of color and the BIPOC community, I have developed a profound understanding of diverse communities' cultural backgrounds, traditions, and values. As a provider, I am acutely aware of the intersectionality of identities and experiences, including race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, ability, and more. My greatest strength lies in my ability to empathize with the lived experiences, challenges, and resilience of women of color and BIPOC individuals. I create a safe and validating therapeutic space where they feel heard, understood, and supported in exploring their concerns and aspirations. As a therapist, I am committed to building collaborative partnerships with my clients. I recognize them as experts in their experiences and agents of change. I foster a collaborative therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect, trust, and empowerment. My approach empowers my clients to achieve their goals and promote their well-being. I am confident in my abilities as a therapist, and I am dedicated to providing my clients with the best possible care.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my practice, I often used cognitive behavioral therapy to educate my clients about the impact of their thoughts on their emotions and actions, thereby enabling them to identify and rectify their negative thought patterns. The client learns to replace negative thought patterns with more realistic and balanced ones. This involves challenging and changing distorted thoughts to promote healthier thinking. Homework is assigned to reinforce learning and encourage clients to practice new skills and strategies outside of therapy sessions.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In my practice, I often employ ACT to encourage my clients to embrace their thoughts and emotions instead of trying to control or eliminate them. Accepting their struggle with their inner experiences can reduce the emotional impact of difficult thoughts by being present, observing their thoughts and feelings without judgment. When clients are engaged in determining their core values, it is imperative to prioritize actions that align with their values, even when confronted with challenging emotions or thoughts. This approach facilitates the exploration of their true aspirations in life, fosters a sense of purpose and direction, and encourages self-care and compassion.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

In my practice, I frequently employ Solution Focused Brief Treatment, which emphasizes the client's strengths, resources, and abilities rather than solely focusing on their problems. This approach enables clients to recognize their potential for transformation. Frequently furnishing the client with tangible strategies and tools that are relatively effortless to incorporate into their daily routines.
