Hi there, I am a licensed professional counselor with a Gestalt and Holistic Wellness approach towards therapy. Gestalt and Wellness approaches allow me to be creative and intentional with my therapeutic practices. I value human connectedness and learning about each person I work with. Therapy is unique to everyone, and my goal is to guide the therapeutic experience with the intention of promoting personal growth. Life has its hardships; my passion is helping people lean into their discomforts to develop the skills needed to overcome them. My skills best serve those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, suicidal ideation, trauma, substance use disorder, family issues, and personal growth needs. I provide therapy to adolescents through adults of all ages and have work experience at university counseling centers, long term residential treatment facilities, hospital/MAT treatment settings, and private practice. If you would like to know more about my therapeutic approach or have any additional questions reach out and let’s set up a time to talk. Best, Joshua Weiss MA, LPC, NCC

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session you can expect to be given the space to ask me any questions you may have. You can also expect to be met with a zero judgment and compassion. It is important for me as your therapist to establish a connection on a human level first, so that the ground can be set for a collaborative therapeutic relationship. Empowerment, choice, and respect are essential to curating a positive therapeutic experience well before any of the work starts. If you are nervous about what to expect, don't worry, it does not have to all be figured out in the first time we meet. I am happy to join you in this journey and invite you to bring your creativity to session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is the ability to connect with people on an authentic level. I understand the importance of human connectedness in treatment and have structured my approach to meet people where they are in their lives/ therapeutic goals. I want the folks that I see to feel comfortable, safe, and in control of their therapeutic experience. Another strength of mine is providing individualized care. I want to explore creative avenues in therapy to best fit the needs of each person I work with.  Currently, I have been focusing my work to assist those seeking personal growth in their lives. Combining holistic wellness practices and gestalt therapy techniques has proven to be extremely helpful for the clients I collaborate with. I have found success working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, suicidal ideation, relationship issues, substance abuse, and trauma. I have work experience serving those with common co-occurring conditions in both the hospital and private practice settings. Additionally, I have worked with a variety of demographics and helped treat those experiencing disorders related to body image, self-esteem, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anger management, eating disorders, and traumatic experiences.

My treatment methods

Gestalt

Gestalt therapy has resonated with me from the first time I began to learn and practice it while studying to be a therapist. This theoretical orientation calls for creativity in the therapeutic setting and encourages folks to work through difficult issues in a more experiential manner. Currently, I am furthering my knowledge and skill set with the Gestalt approach through supervision and mentorship. My mentor is a Graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Pittsburgh and has over 25 years of experience. I find it important to continue one's education outside of the classroom and to learn from other professionals in the field. Gestalt therapy provides me the ability to help those I work with make more informed decisions for themselves through increases self-awareness.
