I am a licensed psychologist practicing in New York. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University. I have practiced for nearly 20 years in a variety of settings, including adolescent facilities, private practice, forensic hospitals, and the VA. Prior to beginning my career in mental health, I was a member of the US Army and a combat veteran.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our fist session is an opportunity for us to discuss the reason(s) someone may be seeking therapy and for me to explain more about myself. I see the first session as an opportunity to see if we connect, to build hope, and to begin learning skills that could be immediately helpful.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that I have the ability to form strong therapeutic relationships through a calm, steady personality.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The foundation of Person-centered therapy is building strong working relationship with clients. From this starting point we work to remove barriers that may be stopping clients from reaching goals they have for themselves or from being the person they want to be. I have adopted this approach from the beginning of my career 20+ years ago because I believe that change begins with the therapeutic relationship

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps clients look at problematic patterns in their life and challenge thinking that may lead to these problems. I have been using this method in conjunction with Person-centered to help clients target patterns and thoughts that are preventing them from reaching their goals for approximately 20 years.
