Welcome to my page! I am Amy, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. The idea of going to counseling can be a daunting one, often surrounded by the mystery of what to expect. You might come to see a counselor for a variety of reasons. You may be facing a life-changing event that has created shock or grief. You may be experiencing feelings of depression and isolation, low self-esteem, or suffering from feelings of anxiety without fully understanding why. There may be events from your past that are preventing you from living your life in the way you would like to. Extreme feelings such as anger, shame, guilt, sadness, or loneliness may be affecting your daily life, keeping you stuck in an uncomfortable place. You may be experiencing a lack of direction, feelings of boredom or of being trapped. In our sessions, I will create a safe space in which to process your feelings and experiences. Together, we will work through them and make you less uncomfortable and more ready to tackle the issues. I believe my role as your counselor is to create an environment in which you can grow and thrive. Are you ready to take this journey with me?
During our sessions, you will check in with me and catch me up on any information you find relevant to your treatment, including set-back and gains. Then we will work on goals guided by your personal treatment plan. Sessions will include Going over assigned work from last session, discussions regarding identified problem areas, interventions targeting those areas/behaviors/symptoms, assessment of progress, assignment of new work, and scheduling of next appointment.
I will employ the use of solution-oriented interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. If you are struggling with stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, grief, addiction, mood disorders, and situational crisis, among other psychological concerns, these therapy modalities can be beneficial to you.
My greatest strength is my ability to actively listen to my clients. During sessions, I cultivate a non-reactive stance without judgement and evaluation. I not only to listen to what is being said, but how it is said, why it is being said, and what it means in the context of my client’s life. This allows me to develop a relational connect with the client. Developing an empathetic connection with a client is key to moving forward in the therapeutic process and is the core of an effective counselor-client relationship.
