Hello! My name Is Tan! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and have over 10 + years of experience working in the mental health field! I love therapy and seeing people WELL! I obtained my Masters in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage in Family Therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. I have served a diverse clientele, including individuals dealing with trauma, military population, Transplant population, anxiety, depression, children and adolescent's, school based therapy, couples and families, and relationship issues. Many of my clients seek therapy to address significant life challenges, such as managing stress, parenting/ co-parenting, overcoming past trauma, or improving emotional well-being as well as those who wish to integrate their spiritual or religious beliefs into therapy, providing support that aligns with their faith and values.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I will primarily want to hear the reasons you made the appointment, what you have already done to try and solve the problem, and what you hope to accomplish in therapy. Pertinent documents such as Informed consent, Confidentiality and its limits are discussed as well as Fees / Appointment Policy / Cancellation Policy. I also take the the liberty of outlining the phases of therapy to better inform clients of the 3 phases of treatment ( Orientation and Assessment, Treatment and Termination) for a greater understanding of the flow of therapy. To better understand my client, I will likely want to know how things are going in your life (relationships, work, school, etc.) as well as information about your childhood. Should we decide to continue working together, we collaboratively work together to develop goals for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, I believe one of my greatest strengths is my ability to exude deep understanding and genuine concern for clients' well-being while fostering a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. This level of empathy helps build strong therapeutic alliances, making my clients feel understood and valued, which is crucial for effective therapy and growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative or distorted thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and maladaptive behaviors. I work collaboratively by helping clients recognize these patterns and learn to replace them with more balanced and realistic thoughts.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach specifically designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. I work collaboratively with my clients to structure sessions that incorporate bilateral stimulation and are focused on reducing trauma symptoms, enhancing emotional regulation, and promoting cognitive and emotional healing, leading to long-term improvements in overall well-being.

Faith based therapy

By utilizing a Faith based approach to therapy, clients spirituality or religious beliefs is incorporated into the therapeutic process, offering unique benefits to individuals who value their faith as a central part of their lives.

Eclectic

The eclectic model of therapy is a flexible and integrative approach that combines techniques and theories from various therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment to the individual needs of each client. By utilizing the eclectic model, I have been able to select and combine interventions from different therapeutic approaches based on the specific needs and preferences of my clientele. This personalized approach ensures that the therapy is relevant and effective for each individual that work with instead of assuming a "one size fits all" model.
