About me

Many of the people I work with feel stuck in patterns of overthinking, anxiety, or difficulty following through on the things that matter most to them. I strive to help adult clients better understand these patterns and develop practical strategies to manage stress, improve focus, and move forward with greater confidence. With over 18 years of experience, my approach focuses on building skills that help people respond to challenges more effectively in everyday life.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what has been bringing you to therapy. We’ll talk about your current concerns, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I’ll ask questions to understand your background, patterns, and goals so we can begin identifying helpful strategies moving forward. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and clearer about how our time together can help.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is helping people translate insight into practical change. Many clients come to therapy understanding their challenges intellectually but struggling to apply solutions consistently in daily life. I focus on helping clients recognize patterns in their thinking, emotions, and behavior, and then develop realistic strategies they can actually use outside of sessions. With over 18 years of experience, I work to create a structured but supportive environment where clients feel understood while also gaining the tools needed to move forward more effectively.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are individuals who feel stuck in patterns of overthinking, stress, or difficulty following through on goals. Many struggle with anxiety, ADHD, procrastination, or feeling mentally overwhelmed by responsibilities at work or in life. They are often thoughtful and capable people who want practical strategies to better manage their thoughts, emotions, and daily demands. They may have tried to solve these challenges on their own and are now looking for guidance, structure, and support to move forward more effectively.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical strategies to respond to challenges more effectively. CBT is especially helpful for anxiety, stress, and ADHD-related patterns such as avoidance, overthinking, and difficulty following through. My approach focuses on building skills that clients can apply in everyday situations.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based techniques help clients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical responses without becoming overwhelmed by them. I often incorporate brief mindfulness exercises to help clients slow down, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional regulation. These skills can be especially helpful for individuals who feel mentally “stuck,” distracted, or reactive in stressful situations. The goal is to build greater awareness and the ability to respond intentionally rather than automatically.

Eclectic

I take an eclectic approach, meaning I draw from several evidence-based methods to meet each client’s individual needs. While CBT and mindfulness often provide a foundation, I adapt techniques depending on a client’s goals, personality, and life circumstances. This flexible approach allows us to focus on practical strategies that improve functioning and well-being rather than using a one-size-fits-all method. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to what will be most helpful for you.

Lance is a great listener and asks questions pertinent to my immediate issues. He validates thought processes where they are healthy and probes where I need work.

I found this provider, Grow, when I gave up on the waiting lists of the local offices where I had my name down, and threw open a broad Google search for "Therapists in Winston Salem." Mr. Oldham was highly recommended and had 18 years of experience, and a specialty working with ADHD, which I have. He is a good listener and has a pleasant demeanor. I feel cautiously confident that I will be able to make improvement to my mental and emotional state with his help.
