Hi, I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) based in Maryland, and also see clients from the District of Columbia. I received my masters degree from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC., and my doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts Global. I have been practicing for 13 years. I help clients starting at age 12 years who are struggling with mental health to gain insight into the underlying issue, and help them through recovery and functioning at their maximum ability.
In my first session with clients, we begin with developing a therapeutic relationship through introduction and assurance of privacy and confidentiality. After this, we get into the presenting issue/s and together develop an individualized treatment plan and follow up. This initial session is usually the longest and takes approximately an hour so you can plan ahead.
Having been in the medical field working as a nurse for over 26 years has helped me to master individuals across lifespans. This helps me to create patient-specific treatment plans with measurable goals that are attributable to success and improved outcomes.
I love working with young adults who are going through some challenges of life but need help to navigate through. Having many years of background as a pediatric nurse, I have developed passion in continuing to help kids develop their full potential in life.
I have successfully used CBT to empower clients to gain insight into their self worth and values, and to appreciate who they are. I assist my clients to understand how their thinking affects their feelings which manifests in their behavior. With use of this treatment method, I have seen enhanced self-esteem in most of my clients.
A personal experience with siblings who suffered from severe mental health issues helped me to understand the best approach to helping my clients. This is my opportunity to right what was done wrong with my siblings. I see all my clients as my family members and put myself in their shoes in order to understand where it hurts the most. This approach helps me to provide the best and valuable treatment with successful outcomes.
In my practice, I see clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and all works of life. Based on this diversity, my treatment approach is not one size fits all. I tailor treatment based on individuals' needs and background, which makes treatment more acceptable and tolerable, with better satisfaction and outcomes.
