Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Paula and I'm a licensed mental health counselor based in Florida. I have 20 years of combined experience as a therapist and school counselor, working with various populations. I work with people struggling with grief, depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship problems as well as life transitions. I have extensive experience working with teens and young adults who are having difficulty adjusting to life transitions, peer and relationship troubles, difficulty with boundaries and low self-esteem, as well as career and academic stress. Depending on your goals and needs in therapy, I strive to provide the right tools to help you become the best possible version of yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My clients often tell me they feel relief after our first session, having had the chance to connect with someone who can listen to them in a non-judgmental way. In our first session, I would take the time to get to know you and the difficulties you are facing. I would also answer any questions you might have, especially if you're new to therapy. This will help us create a tailored plan to work on in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I listen without judgment while providing a space where you can feel safe, supported, and heard. I have a down to earth approach in working with people so that they feel comfortable and not intimidated by therapy.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I utilize a person-centered approach in my counseling practice because I believe that creating a safe space to talk, where you are accepted for who you are, and where you are in your life, is one of the most important aspects of counseling.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

With cognitive behavioral therapy, we examine how our thought patterns influence how we feel and behave, and how we approach our life and circumstances. Examining our core beliefs and challenging negative thoughts, has a direct impact on our outlook on life and how we face our obstacles. When we begin to change our inner dialogue, we start to see positive changes in our lives.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I have a background in yoga, breathwork and mindfulness and feel that all of these can be extremely beneficial to people struggling with various challenges such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, attentional issues, and stress. Applying certain mind-body techniques can often be what a person needs to feel more calm and able to see and process their struggles from a more grounded perspective.
