Hello! Welcome! My name is Alyssa and I believe in queer therapists treating queer clients. Queerness is broad and nuanced, as are our relationships, and they deserve to be treated as such. Humans are social creatures, we need to have relationships with others. And being in healthy, safe, and happy relationships seems to be incredibly difficult for being a basic need. If you've been feeling stuck in patterns or can't seem to get out a negative view of self, or seem to always choose "the wrong one" we can work together to identify patterns and their origin, process past hurts, and move into a place of healing and radical self-acceptance. As Mama Ru says, "if you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?" While I believe you can absolutely be a loving partner in a loving relationship and still struggle with self-worth, the way we see ourselves greatly impacts how we show up for ourselves and others.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will get to know each other. We'll do an assessment that will tell me about who you are, where you've been, and where you're wanting to go. Together, we will identify your challenges and goals - where you want your life to be in a month, six months, a year from now. Then, we'll identify options and strategies you can use to get there. You'll leave the session with a better understanding of what you're facing with an "actions I can take right now" approach. It's also important you feel as though I'm a good fit for who you are and what you need, so please feel free to ask questions back.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths lie in my ability to work with anyone. I live my professional life with "unconditional positive regard," meaning I see the good in you even when you don't--especially when you don't. Every person is perfect, whole, and wonderful exactly the way they are, and I enjoy exploring with folks how to celebrate their strengths, as well as flaws, and navigate how to be the healthiest and happiest version of themselves.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

No one exists in a vacuum, which means there's no one way to grow and heal. I use psychodynamic in its broadest form, meaning there are various methods of treatments and interventions I use as they make sense for each individual person. It always starts from a place of person-centered and strengths-based care. I utilize mindfulness, inner-child work, coping skills, development boundaries, and various ways to process trauma.
