I am an NYU-trained licensed mental health counselor specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, and infertility. I hold two graduate degrees from New York University: a M.A. in Mental Health and Wellness and a M.P.H. in Global Public Health. I take a holistic “whole-person” approach to therapy, considering your upbringing, environment, mind, and body when choosing a treatment modality. I strive to create a safe and warm environment that can help create the foundation of a healthy therapeutic alliance. As your therapist, I will work with you to replace negative patterns of thinking with positive action-based thoughts.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first therapy session will be structured slightly differently than subsequent sessions. We will begin with brief introductions and then dive into your background followed by questions about yourself, your symptoms, coping mechanisms, and overall therapy goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As your therapist and ally, I will help empower you to connect to your inner wisdom, understand how your experiences impact your emotions and decisions, all while helping you live a fulfilling life. Throughout the process, I assist my clients in gaining clarity while finding solutions to the challenges they may face along their journey.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.

Christian Counseling

Christian counseling ultimately looks at your problems in light of your faith. Whether you feel like you're losing your faith or struggling in your relationship, the solution — and your strength — can often be found through faith. Religious trauma can also be processed within our sessions. Christian counseling and mentions of a higher power will only be used if a client consents to it.

EMDR

EMDR, or Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, is a structured, evidence-based treatment for trauma. In this case, trauma is defined as any past experience continuing to cause you distress in present day. The premise behind EMDR is that unprocessed memories are stored in the “emotional” part of the brain, and these memories can be consciously or subconsciously reactivated when you are in a situation reminiscent of the difficult experiences you’ve been through. This can lead to disproportionate reactions to benign events, and tends to be what happens when we get “triggered.” In EMDR, we will activate the memory network associated with a specific present-day trigger you’d like to work through. I will guide you through sets of repeated eye movements (or tapping) until the painful memories have been reprocessed. EMDR can be used to treat PTSD and complex trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, phobias, grief and loss, addiction, and unhealthy self-esteem.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapies use meditation, relaxation and awareness exercises to help focus on the present moment, aiming over time to experience day to day situations and stressors in nonjudgmental and non-reactionary ways.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Culturally sensitive therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the therapist's understanding of a client's background and belief system as it relates to their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or other important elements that make up someone's culture and/or identity. I take a holistic “whole-person” approach to therapy considering your upbringing, environment, mind, and body when considering a treatment modality. As a proud Jamaican-American, cultural sensitivity is at the forefront of my work.
