I'm Jenni Brooks, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 7 yrs of clinical counseling experience with all ages and over 20+ years in the mental health field, with many specialties including but not limited to mood disorders, significant mental illness, psychosis, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, grief and loss, aging, trauma (PTSD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities, OCD, Eating Disorders, Self-Esteem/Self-Worth struggles, Interpersonal and Family Problems.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Typically, the first session will be getting to know each other to provide that comfort and ability to feel safe and able to open up about what brought you to counseling. I will gather information regarding your history to aid in knowing you and your background so I can best assist in your current needs. We become who we are from birth until now, whether our problem is current, how we can handle the situation, or the way we look at it, often stems from the development of our coping skills, emotional development and personality. I have found this to help me provide the highest level of competence in helping my clients. Now, with this being said, please don't feel like you will have to go over previously worked on trauma, issues, etc., I just want to know you :-)

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My years of experience are a great strength; my ability to listen, empathy; non-judgmental approach, and my knowledge of therapeutic tools to help clients succeed.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use DBT frequently in sessions to help clients learn how to understand and regulate emotions, tolerate distress, learn interpersonal effectiveness (communicate what they want to say, believe it or not, we ALL struggle with this), and to be able to stay in the moment (mindfulness) which are the core components of this type of therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT frequently in client sessions to help them understand the correlation between their thoughts, actions, and behaviors. (Behaviors are not always negative).

Couples Counseling

I work with couples to be able to communicate more effectively, understand each other's viewpoints in a therapeutic environment, and work through all interpersonal and life struggles to work on improving relationships moving forward. Offer individual sessions for each and couples therapy to enhance the opportunity for growth in this experience.

Family Therapy

I work with families often using Family Systems Therapy to work through struggles both typical and atypical family problems. In my years of experience, I have been blessed to be able to bring together a multitude of family members from very dark places. I am confident in my ability to aid in the repair and/or acceptance of your family situation to better all members of your family.

Integrative

This means that based on my years of experience and training, I can utilize most modalities in the therapeutic realm and will utilize what works best for the client at the time and moment of need.
