Hello, I'm Sonia Torres, a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist. I believe we are all resilient beings and I am passionate about supporting my clients through their healing journey with compassion and encouragement. I received my Masters' degree from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA and have 20 years of experience in the therapeutic field, working with children, adults and families.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, I provide clients with the required ethical and legal information and I proceed to share some of my professional experience. I assess for the client's knowledge of therapy, and if needed, I provide psycho-education on the therapeutic process. I provide the space for questions, concerns and collaborate with clients on identifying their most pressing issues and goals for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I offer and I am intentional in providing a welcoming, safe, and collaborative therapeutic setting for my clients. I believe in being genuine, ethical, and compassionate. My own therapeutic and healing journey provided me with so much support and growth, that I wanted to learn how to provide a similar experience to others. I believe strongly in the resilience of people and I feel a sense of fulfillment and purpose when I am trusted to be part of a client's process. During my personal time, you can find me hiking with my dogs or spending time with loved ones.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Through the therapeutic lens of Person Centered Therapy, I work towards creating a supportive therapeutic environment where clients feel understood, accepted, and valued. This is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship and experience and I've found it to be valuable in my work with clients.

Attachment-based

By integrating Attachment Based therapy, I aim to help clients to foster self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier attachment behaviors. Through Attachment Based Therapy I work to help clients build more fulfilling relationships and improve their overall emotional well-being, while promoting their healing from past wounds and ultimately empowering clients to create secure and satisfying connections in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies in order to equip clients with practical skills so as to foster personal growth, emotional regulation, and improved relationships, leading to lasting positive changes in clients' lives.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy offers clients a pathway to understanding the complex interplay between their unconscious mind, past experiences, and present behavior. We will collaborate in our sessions to foster self-awareness, processing emotions, and exploring relational patterns. Psychodynamic therapy (rooted in Psychoanalytical therapy) helps clients achieve deeper insights and lasting change.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I believe in affirming and respecting my clients' cultural values and experiences. Through the lens of Culturally Sensitive Therapy I foster my clients' deeper understanding of their cultural contexts and identity, incorporate cultural strengths, thus achieving personal growth, healing, and well-being in a respectful and inclusive manner.
