I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing in-person and virtually in the the suburbs of Philadelphia,PA for almost 20 years. I love empowering people to feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin, to embrace who they are and what they offer to others and to experience the peace, joy and freedom that comes with self-awareness.
In our first session we can discuss the reasons you believe it is time to start therapy and how I can best support you. I will explain what a typical session looks like and ways we can work together to help you reach your goals. You can ask me any questions about the process, tell me about any previous experiences with therapy and what you think worked best and what didn't work in the past. Sessions can be anywhere from 45-60min depending upon what we are discussing.
Clients have told me that they appreciate the down to earth, nonjudgemental approach I take in therapy and that we can laugh as well as cry or yell in session when needed. In the time that I have been working in this field I have worked with individuals that did not have housing as well as individuals that owned multiple homes and cars. I have worked with people that could not verbalize what they were feeling as well as people who could give effective and engaging presentations to hundreds of people on a daily basis. I have been with clients that had to deal with the loss of their child as well as children grieving a parent that has died. I have helped couples preparing to get married as well as people in marriages that were contemplating divorce. The common thread is that we all want to be heard, understood and accepted.
If you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed with what daily life has become and you are tired of trying to figure out what changes you need to make or making changes that are not realistic and don't last then I can help you break that pattern. If you think or say negative or critical things about yourself that you would never say to someone else that you care for I can help you examine how those negative automatic thoughts and self-talk are affecting your self -esteem and ability to connect with others. We can work together to help you develop a more realistic, compassionate and positive view of self so you can socialize with less anxiety.
After doing this work for more than 20years I have learned to use techniques from various theoretical approaches including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness. I pull what I have learned from each of these schools of thought to listen and help you identify patterns in your life that are no longer working for you. Then we can work together to determine what changes you are willing to make in order to grow and have the life that you desire.
