Hello and welcome! My name is Lauren and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in sunny California. When people ask me what I do for a living, I love describing the privilege I have of being a Psychotherapist! It is with great humility and empathy that I get to walk alongside clients during different seasons of their lives. If I could pick 4 words to describe my style as a therapist it would be invested, passionate, warm, and empowering. Nothing brings more fulfillment than meeting clients where they are at, learning about what's important to them, increasing awareness and insight within their situations, and using the client’s strengths to see their desired changes.
In our first session together, I strive to get to know you and what brings you into therapy currently. We will talk about where you want to be, the strengths you already possess that we can use to get there, and how we can create clear and structured goals for success.
Having worked at a non-profit agency, a PHP/IOP for adolescents with eating disorders, an elementary school, and a community clinic, I have developed a wide variety of skilled interventions that target several issues. I aim to make each session unique and tailored to the client and the struggle they are facing. My approach is warm, compassionate, curious, creative, and collaborative. Adding some humor and fun to our sessions provides some levity when appropriate. I strive to bring my authentic self and meet you with genuineness, respect, and an open mind.
I love working with adults and teens who are interested in seeing progress in one or more areas of life. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often come in feeling stressed, drained, confused, anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed. My hope is that once our work is complete, clients can leave feeling peaceful, empowered, equipped, authentic, and courageous. I am invested in you, your story, and our therapeutic relationship.
I am able to provide therapy from a faith-based, Christian perspective if that is something the client values.
We all have experienced some form of trauma in our lives. It leaves its mark on us, and can make us question our worth, identity, and abilities. My passion is to help you unhook from the things that have negatively impacted you from the past and help you find a healthier, more whole way of living.
I have found CBT to be an effective tool when clients are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, traumatic events, and relationship issues because the thoughts we have directly impact how we feel and behave. So many automatic thoughts enter into our minds, and we don't take the time to pause, examine those thoughts for accuracy, and then tweak them so that they are more accurate and realistic. When we do this, it leads to less distressing emotions and fewer problematic behaviors. Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected, so when we change one, we impact the others.
The tools from DBT are applicable to many areas of life. They are used as coping tools to improve managing emotions, increase mindfulness, cultivate distress tolerance, and manage interpersonal relationships. Past clients have continuously praised DBT skills for how useful and effective they are!
