Hi, my name is Marideth Kates. I have a passion for working with young people and have done so for over 20 years. I love helping empower teenagers, college students, and young professionals who struggle with issues such as: anxiety, focus, energy, motivation, self-image, overall health goals, and etc. Do you feel like your adolescent or college-age child is struggling in these areas? Are they lacking skills to manage the stress and anxiety of life’s challenges? Seeking therapy can be overwhelming but once young people begin, they are typically very engaging and ready to feel better! I value a personalized approach and work to ensure clients are very active in their healing process. I incorporate fun interactions while working on serious issues.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will start with a brief introduction, establish a relationship, then dive into the specific challenges you or your child is facing. This will help me create a customized plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel very strong in my ability to connect with young people. They have shared feeling very safe and comfortable in sessions. I especially enjoy working with athletes. I love to help them achieve a champion's mindset while giving themselves grace when they struggle with perfectionism.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate christianity when a client desires this type of support. I use cognitive, cognitive-behavioral, holistic, and many other types of therapeutic approaches. I have an approach that helps young people feel very emotionally safe. I maintain a focused, yet light-hearted space! I help challenge the lies our brain and experiences attempt to tell us and work on replacing them with the truth. This work helps free us from the heaviness of life and allows us to see the opportunities for positive and healthy thoughts and beliefs.

Strength-Based

I believe strongly in supporting people by using their strengths. I enjoy helping them catapult into a new and healthy way of living. Unfortunately, there is too much focus on battling our weaker areas. The balance is off! I work to help young people manage the stressors and pressures of life and cultivate joy, hope, and confidence. I see a lot of improvement in a short amount of time! People often feel better after the initial session as they feel a weight lifted. People want to be seen and heard and I take the opportunity I have to provide this, very seriously.

Attachment-based

I believe many relational struggles stem from and can be exacerbated by attachment issues. I help identify these issues and heal the often very deep wounds.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I love to walk with people through their trauma. I have a lot of experience working with people with sexual trauma, family trauma, and etc.
