Hi and thank you for your consideration. Relationships with professors led to my providing therapy as an undergraduate student majoring in Community Service at University of Oregon. After receiving a Masters Degree in Social Work, the majority of my career was working 23 years for the National Center for PTSD. I had the extraordinary experience of creating my own job description as a Health Scientist in the emerging field of Disaster Mental Health. Over the course of these years, I responded to more than a dozen Presidentially-declared catastrophic events. At first, I worked with survivors or next-of-kin. As a first responder, I learned what every first responder learns when working with people in need. Without intention, we receive more than we give. It is, if you will, sacred work. It has long been important to me to conceptualize what I am trying to achieve professionally. Toward that end, I published research, published guidelines to practice, etc. Eventually, I became a national, and then international consultant regarding emergency response policies, be they federal, state, county, or institutional. In 2018, I received a Fulbright grant to continue the work I began in Ukraine, following the revolution in 2014. In 2022, I began offering telemental health therapy and have been enjoying the work and the progress with my clients.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Typically, a first session allows for you to express your concerns, and my response with respect to treatment options with me or with someone I feel would better serve you.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

The first order of therapy is to create a safe environment. I place a high value on warmth, empathy, and authenticity. My approach to therapy begins with "where you are at". It's not my job to pathologize you but to help you become more empowered to reach your goals, be it self-understanding, relief from anxiety, overcoming depression, or behavioral change. I often use a method of change I developed. The model received support and recommendation from one of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century, Dr. Michael Mahoney. The method integrates cognitive behavioral therapy with meditation and relaxation procedures and was published in 1990. Too much to explain here, I review its rationality and evidence with you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been told my warmth, empathy, and authenticity are helpful in working with me. I have been gifted with creative intelligence, perceptiveness, spontaneity, and the ability to conceptualize helping behaviors as affirmed by 30 publications about therapeutic practice and co-producing a national award-winning film. I believe people can change and triumph over adversity. I specialize in working with adult clients burdened by anxiety, depression, or a history of traumatization within a safe environment, even if virtually.
