Welcome to my page! My name is Claudia Candelas-Prado, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. I am originally from the Bay Area and obtained my Masters degree from San Jose State University in 2015. For the past 9 years, I have ben working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families in a variety of settings (community agencies, hospitals, schools). It is important for me to create a safe and welcoming environment for my patients to openly share their day to day challenges and discover their best version of themselves.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will start with introductions and brief overview of services, then explore any challenges/obstacles that you are currently facing. This is also a great time for us to identify our treatment plan goals and the steps that we will take to get there. This information will help me create an individualized plan to work through in our follow up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is my ability to create individualized treatment plans to help you meet your goals. I believe that every client brings a unique experience to their therapy journey and interventions cannot be one size fits all. I take pride in validating people’s experience and holding a safe space to make meaning of these challenging situations.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In session, we will work towards identifying how your thoughts impact your emotions and the behaviors that you engage in. By increasing our awareness of how our thoughts impact us, we are then able to change these thoughts to create more balanced ones and cope with our difficult emotions much more effectively.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Every individual carries a unique experience which is important to consider when we are looking for interventions that would best fit your needs. In our sessions, we will take into consideration how our religious practices, cultural background, identity, spirituality, community, and other factors play a role in our presenting symptoms.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In our sessions, we will identify skills to help you tolerate distress (decrease intensity of emotions quickly), tools to help you manage/regulate emotions in an appropriate way to prevent a crisis (help you identify your safe zone), and skills to help us improve and enhance our interpersonal relationships with others.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness helps us focus on one thing at a time. Anxiety and depression can often lead us to experience brain fog, making it difficult to focus on what to do next or what is happening in front of us. Mindfulness based therapy can help us reach the mental clarity that we need to continue to move forward.

Motivational Interviewing

Life changes can be difficult! Motivational interviewing uses a practical and empathetic approach to help you identify steps to make changes to your behaviors. Let's work together in breaking down those really big goals that you have been holding back on, in to smaller steps to create long term change.
