Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has lived in both Virginia and Massachusetts. I have experience working with clients of all ages and their families. I have worked or trained in schools, private practice, community mental health centers, and Probate & Family Court. I enjoy helping clients identify their strengths and learn skills to navigate life challenges and transitions.
First of all, thank you for making the time to come to therapy. With everyone's busy schedule, I know this is not easy. Your first session is a "get to know you" session that works in both directions. I will ask some questions to learn about you, and I am happy to answer questions you may have about me. We will go over important policies and procedures, client rights, and expectations. Then we will talk a bit about what brought you to therapy and your goals for treatment. Finally, we will discuss a plan for when and how often to meet.
In general, I pride myself on my ability to connect with a variety of clients. I make it a point to take time to get to know you and understand your point of view. And I've been told I have a great sense of humor. From my prior training/employment, I have a lot of experience with psychological assessment and with schools and with the Special Education process. I also have expertise in early childhood developmental, and I have a passion for infant mental health.
Tegan Snigier offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
My overarching approach is client-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. In terms of the specific techniques I use, I believe in tailoring my therapeutic approach to fit what my client needs at the time. Why not take the best from each style of therapy? I use a diverse range of techniques, but in a very intentional way in order to help clients meet their therapeutic goals. Some of the approaches that I use include (but are not limited to): cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, and solution-focused.
