Life can be messy and hard. My approach as a therapist is to come along side my clients and help them to sort through the messy and hard, ride the waves of the emotional experience and use their individual strengths to write the next chapter of their life story. Through a person-centered approach, I incorporate trauma-focused interventions utilizing CBT and DBT therapy. It is important to build trust and rapport in the therapeutic relationship and I believe I can do that in a genuine and kind way. I consider it a privilege to be a therapist.
In our first session, the focus will be in beginning to build a therapeutic relationship by getting to know one another. Additionally, I will listen to what you are seeking by taking the step into therapy. This will allow for future sessions to focus on setting and reaching your goals in therapy.
Throughout the past 5 years, I have received feedback from my clients who say I am genuine and real, offering a safe space for them to open up and share their challenges and concerns. With a person-centered approach, I am focused on what my clients need and helping them improve their overall well-being.
I have found I am best suited for clients who are struggling with life transitions, whether young adults or older. Clients feel stuck when situations are not moving along as they would like and do not have tools to cope. Working together, we can find ways to improve coping and shift mindsets to ease the pain in the journey.
I utilize CBT therapy as a tool to engage clients in building self-awareness to how thoughts, feelings and behaviors connect. Additionally, increasing self-awareness to motives can unpack patterns and faulty beliefs that are unhelpful to a person.
I utilize DBT therapy as a tool to help clients find the gray where a lot of life happens. DBT has been helpful for my clients who tend to see the extremes, have all or nothing thinking or see things in black and white. Teaching clients DBT skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effective gives them a good coping skills toolbox.
