My love for therapy came after I was able to engage and participate in therapy for myself and really “practice what I preach” while I was still young and in school. It was a great experience because although my therapist understood her job was my end goal and what all my classes were teaching me what she was actively utilizing with me, she acknowledges me as a human first, a young student, black girl, who was struggling through the ebbs and flows of life, as we all do. I love therapy because life is truly a continuous healing journey and things and people change, therapy is a space that welcomes and hosts the ‘growing pains’ of life’s transitions and changes, the good, bad, ugly, unexpected and all. I have had the privilege of working with unique individuals, families, and couples while experiencing life-giving breakthroughs. People experiencing a variety of issues including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, pregnancy/postpartum/parenting, grief/loss, and healthy relationships can benefit from therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After building some rapport in an initial evaluation session. Utilizing the appropriate psychotherapeutic evidence-based interventions that meet your needs, we can begin to work on concerning themes or issues in your journey. I work to offer a safe, judgement-free space as we work to address and issues or barriers to you being able to experience personal growth and healing. If you are ready to start making life-giving, positive mental health changes, contact me to learn more about services or to schedule an appointment.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

There are a multitude of intervention possibilities to meet and treat your needs. I utilize the following as well as other approaches when working with clients. I frequently incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal, Solution-Focused Therapy (SF), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and more, depending on the client needs. I am very experienced in working with: depression, anxiety, self-esteem/confidence, life transitions, trauma (EMDR), pregnancy/postpartum, parenting issues, etc., to simply name a few.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths as a therapist I believe are creating a secure space for my clients through authenticity, encouragement, and support. I also work to challenge my clients with new or different perspectives to assist in their abilities to expand and grow in ways they may not have considered or thought possible. Particularly my niche is trauma and perinatal mental health, as I am also a certified birth doula and training to be a certified lactation counselor. Also, from providing therapy services, I'm very active in the birthing/parenting community.
