Therapy is a safe place for a client to remove the masks that we all wear and begin to heal. For this to happen, I believe in providing a space of understanding, empathy, active listening, and kindness. I strive to teach people the coping tools they need to not only heal, but have the happy, meaningful life that they deserve. My goal is to support my clients through active listening and helping them reach their goals. There is nothing more exciting than helping people discover their potential, find peace in a chaotic world, and achieve life goals. I believe in teaching people about actual self-care so that they do not have to rely on commercial self-care as an escape from their reality. Most of all, I believe that in building a trusting, nonjudgmental, safe therapeutic relationship where clients can process adverse experiences and move forward, effectively navigating life’s problems.
In our first session, we can take some time to get to know each other, discuss consents or any screenings you completed before the appointment, and complete your initial intake. We can discuss preliminary treatment goals, and figure out a good therapy schedule that fits your needs. I can also answer any questions that you have about therapy in general.
I have been employed in several different treatment settings including community mental health, inpatient treatment, in-home therapy services, crisis line work, and partial hospitalization. I earned my M.H.S. in Addiction Studies, mental health counseling concentration, in 2018 from Governors State University. I am fully licensed as an LCPC and certified as an alcohol and drug counselor (CADC). I have 7 years of experience in the field and have held positions as a case manager, therapist, inpatient group therapist, crisis intervention staff, utilization management, and supervisor of intake and assessment. Within all of these different positions, I feel like I have learned to take a more holistic approach to therapy.
As a therapist who is client centered, I believe in individualized treatment, tailored to fit your needs.I could utilize a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approach, but also include other modalities such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and process-oriented therapy, to name a few. I use motivational interviewing to help clients explore their motivation to change and empower them to understand their ability to build the life they want.
