Hi! I’m Lisa! I have a heart for people and the many challenges and experiences we all face. I believe humor and empathy are important components of the collaborative therapeutic relationship and I feel passionate about helping people find and use their own voice. I view challenging times as opportunities for people to grow into new strengths, insights and to fulfill their potential.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

"My own experiences with trauma have given me a unique perspective and deep empathy for clients going through similar challenges. This shared understanding allows me to connect with them on a profound level, offering a compassionate and non-judgmental space for healing. I am able to relate to their feelings and struggles, which enhances my ability to support them effectively. My personal journey has not only informed my professional practice but also strengthened my commitment to helping others navigate their paths toward recovery.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In cognitive behavioral therapy I help a client identify and challenge negative thoughts, replacing them with more balanced perspectives. We would work together to develop coping strategies and conduct behavioral experiments to test new ways of thinking. The process involves practicing these skills both in and out of sessions, with the goal of empowering the client to manage their thoughts and emotions more effectively on their own.

Faith based therapy

In faith-based therapy, I try to integrate a client's spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process. We explore how faith and spirituality can provide comfort, guidance, and meaning in the client's life. I may use prayer, scripture, or other religious practices alongside traditional therapeutic techniques to support the client's emotional and spiritual well-being. The goal is to help the client align their faith with their mental health journey, promoting healing and growth through both psychological and spiritual avenues.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

In Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), I try to help a client address and reframe negative beliefs related to traumatic experiences. The therapy focuses on identifying "stuck points"—unhelpful thoughts that prevent recovery—and works to challenge and modify these thoughts. I help guide the client in understanding how the trauma has affected their thinking and helps them develop healthier, more accurate beliefs. Through writing exercises and discussions, clients process their trauma and learn coping strategies, aiming to reduce distress and improve their overall functioning.

Compassion Focused

In Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), I try to help a client develop self-compassion and compassion for others, which can be particularly helpful for individuals who struggle with self-criticism and shame. The therapy involves understanding and working with the three emotional regulation systems: threat, drive, and soothing. I try to guide the client in cultivating a kinder, more understanding inner voice and encourages them to approach their struggles with warmth and care. Techniques like mindfulness, visualization, and compassionate imagery are used to build a compassionate mindset, promoting emotional healing and resilience.

Reality Therapy

In Reality Therapy, I try to help a client focus on the present and take responsibility for their actions. The therapy is based on the idea that we all have basic needs, like love and belonging, and that our choices impact our ability to fulfill these needs. I try to work with the client to identify what they want in life and to assess whether their current behavior is helping them achieve these goals. We would collaborate to develop practical plans and make choices that lead to a more satisfying and fulfilling life. The emphasis is on solving problems and creating positive changes in the here and now.
