Hi! My name is Katie. I'm a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) and Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) based in Pennsylvania. I received my Masters from Marywood University and have been practicing in a variety of settings for around 3 years. I strive to create an environment where my clients can feel safe and comfortable opening up about their experiences. Beginning therapy can be a complicated process, and I aim to help create a positive experience to make this transition more approachable. I aim to empower my clients to take the first step to self-improvement.
Our first session will be spent establishing therapeutic rapport, and building a mutual awareness of therapy goals and expectations. Together, we will analyze your challenges, building a foundation for a measurable treatment plan that helps you feel confident in your past, present, and future.
Through a person-centered approach, I aim to create a therapeutic space which includes empathy, active listening, non-judgement, and authenticity. These qualities encourage meaningful connections and support clients in their journey toward self-acceptance and personal growth.
CBT is used in my practice by assisting you with identifying maladaptive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, dissecting dysfunctional thoughts, and reframing to make the dysfunctional thoughts more accurate.
DBT in my practice emphasizes a balance between acceptance and change, helping clients build a life they find worth living. Using DBT, I help clients manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop coping skills.
Trauma-Informed Care in my practice focuses on understanding and responding to the effects of trauma on clients, creating an environment conducive to healing and recovery for trauma survivors.
Psychoeducation enhances the therapeutic process by fostering understanding, promoting engagement, and empowering clients to take an active role in their healing. Goals of psychoeducation include empowerment, normalization, improved coping, informed decision making, communication, and relapse prevention.
Positive psychology is integrated into therapy to enhance well-being and promote personal growth. By integrating principles such as strengths identification, goal setting, gratitude, mindfulness and resilience, and self-compassion, positive psychology in therapy helps clients not only address their challenges but also build a fulfilling and meaningful life.
