What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Once we get some preliminary paperwork out of the way, we’ll start by discussing what brings you to therapy and how I can help you. Once I get an idea of your concerns and goals for counseling, we’ll explore some of the ways you can start solving your problem so you can find some immediate relief. Along the way, we’ll continue to explore any patterns or underlying issues that are contributing to your situation.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My goal to help you find what works for you that you can apply to everyday life solutions that work. Thank you for the opportunity!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Relief from anxiety or depression requires a change in your perception and the story you are telling yourself about “what if”. It takes a modification of your attitude, a willingness to challenge hidden assumptions, and gently redirecting your thoughts to the present moment rather than the imagined future. You will need to start shifting to objective thinking, and challenging your negative thoughts and beliefs. Each time you go through this process, you get stronger at resisting your intrusive thoughts, and I can help you learn the skills you need to overcome it. By exploring the core thoughts and memories that are feeding your stress responses, you can minimize their influence, empowering you to live free from worry or depression.

EMDR

Traumatic memories are stored in a primal part of the brain, where, when something related to the trauma occurs, trigger high emotional arousal because the neurons are hard wired to stimulate this part of the brain automatically. All those feelings of helplessness, shame, self-loathing and fear are activated in an instant, activating the fear – and fight, flight, freeze response. Living with childhood trauma can effect your life, your self-esteem and your relationships in so many destructive ways. The good news is, I can offer this brief effective treatment for relief from this stress and pain. By using the cutting-edge eye-movement therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing or EMDR, we can quickly process childhood trauma and anxiety in just a few sessions. Using eye movements, like reenacting the rapid eye movements (REM’s) of the dream state, you recall the trauma without having to talk about it, and the eye movements can be used to calm reactive symptoms during the process. The eye movements are used to help you process disturbing past memories, and helps you to more quickly change the effects of these memories. During the relaxing of the eye movements your mind stays grounded in the present, and the process is soothing so that your anxiety is quickly relieved. It is an 8 phase process, and although you remember what happened, the created instillation of new beliefs has built new neural pathways and connections, and alleviate the distress and the triggering is eliminated. As the problem trauma loses its hold on the neural pathways of your mind, you will feel relief. Research indicates that this process is creating lasting change and freeing people from past trauma.

Positive Psychology

There are several factors that can contribute to feeling lost and depressed. Brain chemistry, family history, childhood trauma, emotional abuse, physical trauma, or merely having too much on your plate can all provide fertile ground in which depression can flourish. The truth is that we all need help seeing things—especially ourselves—from a different perspective. I can help you change your distorted self-image of your discouraging inner critic. And in the process, you can heal the wounds that are holding you back and find clarity that will enable you to live with greater confidence, peace, and self-compassion. In this atmosphere free of judgment and a chance to be heard, understood, and accepted for who you are, I’ll be offering you direction and hope for the future. Focusing on your strengths and abilities, I will offer you practical advice on how to deal with your depression symptoms and find immediate relief and improve your ability to solve problems and move forward toward your goals.
