Dr. Khan's experience includes: Private Practice at The Lovett Center (Montrose, TX), Clinical Training Director and Adjunct Faculty at University of St. Thomas (Houston, TX), Contract Clinician at Supportive Care (Houston, TX), Assistant Director and Director of Training and Outreach at Rice University Counseling Center (Houston, TX), Dr. Khan enjoys meeting the client where they are and assisting in improving quality of life so that clients can thrive and begin to feel in control of their emotions, life and goals.In her free time, Salimah enjoys reading, walks in the park and spending time with her family and her three furbabies.
Clients will have a clear understanding of the counseling process and work towards becoming true to their authentic selves leading to a better quality of life. They will also learn how to better regulate emotions and feel more in control of their lives.
She uses a collaborative client-centered approach to treatment, including principles of holistic treatment approach and psychodynamic principles in understanding development of the whole person. Other common interventions used are CBT, Narrative Therapy, DBT, Mindfulness, and other evidence-based treatment options.
Dr. Khan works well with clients aged 12 to the elderly. Dr. Khan has a keen understanding and development of young adults, adults, and the elderly. She currently works with students and veterans and people from diverse backgrounds (minorities. LGBTQ, and individuals coping with life transitions (career, grief and loss, divorce, and managing health problems). She also enjoys working with women with fertility issues, new mothers, and working with women struggling with postpartum depression.
