Do you feel like things just aren't working right in your life and/or relationships? I could be of help. In my more than 23-year career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist I’ve helped hundreds of individuals and couples. As an individual your relationship(s) may not be what’s getting in your way. It could be you getting in the way of your relationships or what’s bothering you may have nothing to do with relationships with others. Our relationship with ourselves can get in the way of success, too. If you’re in a nontraditional relationship or an individual that doesn’t fit the general heterosexual, monogamous, and/or dual gender model no problem. I’ve worked with you all. With an educational background in life span development, I can help you understand how your experiences and life situations have interacted with you to create who you are now, your behaviors, your beliefs and how you interact with the world. From there we’ll be able to create a way to change things. It may sound like a big ask but I’m up for it. Are you?

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After we get to know each other for a session we’ll develop a treatment plan together outlining what we think the main block is, what needs adjusting and how to go about shifting things. As we move forward, we’ll adjust the plan as needed, more deeply explore blocks interfering with movement and celebrate successes. New blocks often show themselves as we move forward. We’ll work through each until you get to a place where you want to be.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

With 2 Masters’ degrees and 23 years of continuing education my methods and tool bag are quite extensive and varied. Though cognitive/behavioral techniques have always been the cornerstone of my work, I also use such varied interventions as deep breathing. guided imagery and self-talk, among many others.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Sex Therapy, I soon discovered, involves a lot of trauma. Not only does sexual abuse come up but so do other traumas during sexual development and experimentation. Sexual orientation and sexual dysphoria have their own traumas. Trauma, therefore, is a specialization of mine which generalizes outside of the sexual area and can involve diverse experiences like war, accidents, and failure. Actually, trauma is such an individual experience that what is traumatic to one person may not be experienced as traumatic to another.
