Welcome! My name is Renee Cavalier. I have been in practice for 19 years; 14 in private practice. In addition, I have experience in community mental health, behavioral health rehabilitative services (restructured as IBHS), and university/research settings. I am also a licensed attorney; however, my sole focus is on psychotherapy. I genuinely enjoy the practice of psychotherapy, and I have great respect for the clients I serve and the process in which they engage. I look forward to meeting with you!
Sessions will be very conversational, while providing space for clients to process their experiences and address their goals. There will be times when routine questions are asked and/or feedback is provided, but the client will retain agency over their treatment throughout the process. The focus of our first session will primarily be on getting to know each other and getting comfortable with each other. Subsequent sessions will progress at a pace with which the client is comfortable, and the content of sessions will be based on the client's therapeutic objectives and goals.
Exposure to a multitude of various life experiences, and awareness of life's struggles. This allows me to easily understand and empathize with my clients' experiences.
CBT techniques are utilized to treat a variety of presenting issues by working with the client to identify and challenge harmful thoughts, and then replace them with more reasonable and healthy alternative thoughts.
Mindfulness practices are utilized to help the client increase their awareness of the present moment, while reserving judgment about their experience. With practice, mindfulness techniques can improve emotion regulation.
Motivational interviewing is utilized to help the client resolve ambivalence and support internally motivated decision-making.
Eclectic therapy is a multi-theoretical approach that allows for treatment flexibility based on the client's needs and goals. The therapist is able to customize the client's treatment by utilizing one form or a combination of methods to most effectively address a particular issue.
Positive Psychology is a therapeutic method that utilizes the client's personal strengths to address challenges and improve well-being.
